  2. Heather, you’ve fallen in with the real estate broker-driven masses who incorrectly label this section as “East Williamsburg”. This is a contrived neighborhood designation used by realtors who decided to include the eastern parts of Greenpoint and Williamsburg and a portion of Bushwick. This was done to push rentals in the less fashionable areas in Bushwick (read “slums”) by creating an imaginary, and historically inaccurate, association with hipster-infested Williamsburg. Check out the map at this link for FNY:

East Williamsburgh was an area of northern Ridgewood, along the border with eastern Bushwick. East Williamsburgh was located enirely within the borders of Queens County, and, has no connection, geographically or historically, with the Brooklyn neighborhood. I pointed this out to Kevin Walsh in 2009.

This renaming is similar to what the gentrifiers did with Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill, all part of what was known as South Brooklyn. It’s nothing more than a selling ploy.
