Williamsburg Photo Du Jour: North 10 Street
If what I saw today is any indication, it would appear that crusty season has indeed begun in Williamsburg!

I’m relatively new to this fair ‘hood, and am unfamiliar with the term “crusty.” What does this curious phrase mean?
Crusties are people in their mid-teens to late twenties. Tend to have drug problems and/or very troubled homes. Refer to themselves as “travelers.” Go from city to city following nice weather. In terms of the ‘nabe, they will sit on Bedford and near the “L” with cardboard signs asking for monetary assistance. When not there, they usually can be found in the plethora of abandoned McLoft sites (or other stop-work order victim sites) or in Parks.
Here’s a(nother) pretty spot-on definition from my buddy Judy:
Crusties are youngish white people who leave home to escape the tyranny of cleanliness and hair-care products. Instead, they choose to slum it on the streets of various cities and annoy locals by bumming change, picking at scabs, and talking about anarchy. They’re often accompanied by their poor pets, who would much rather be home in Connecticut with their crusty owner’s parents, romping in a yard and eating Alpo instead of crusty vegan leftovers.
yes… I was trying to not go there…but, yes
