A Kitten Grows in Brooklyn
I recently got a call from a good friend of mine. She had discovered a litter of kittens in her backyard. Naturally I rushed over and saw them for myself.
The mother scrutinized me as I took pictures of her brood— all of whom are jet black.
The kittens didn’t seem to mind. They continued wrestling and nipping at each other as I snapped away.
After consulting with a friend of mine from BARC, we are mulling over how we are going to trap these kittens. They haven’t been weened yet, but soon they will be. If we do not catch them in time they will wander off to a mean, brutish and short life on the street. And beget more strays. It’s a never-ending cycle.
Please spay and neuter your pets, folks. No living, feeling creature should be subjected to this kind of life.

Poor little sweeties. Hopefully you can get them trapped and fixed and on their way to a better life. Fingers crossed…
Put a can of cat food under a box supported by a stick tied to a string and when the hunger little buggers come to eat trap them! They will flail once trapped so be sure to pounce on the box!
they are gorgeous. there’s something about black cats. hope this story has a happy ending.
Rowan: You and me both. We’re going to try to catch them this weekend— provided we can find a trap. I hope they’re still there. It breaks my heart to see animals left to languish on the streets where they are at risk of:
1. starving to death
2. being run over by a car or
3. being the target of abuse from humans
Both the kittens and their mother are absolutely beautiful— jet black fur with green eyes. They deserve a shot at having a better life.
