Quicklink: Possible Conflicts Of Interest Regarding Domino Vote?

As I mentioned previously tonight our local Community Board will be conducting their monthly meeting. What you might not know is they are scheduled to take yet another vote regarding the controversial conversion of the former Domino Sugar Factory (as seen at left) into 2,200 market rate condominiums and a modicum (READ: pittance) of affordable housing. I mention the previous because the Williamsburg Greenpoint News + Arts has published a very compelling article regarding several members of our Community Board whose business relationships with the Community Preservation Corporation (the entity is behind the aforementioned proposal) pose serious questions about possible conflicts of interest. This article is a must read for anyone curious about what’s happening at Domino. Check it out!

LAST GASP: Socks Has Been Found!

Okay, I was going to call it an early night— but then I received this email. It is too cool NOT to pass along ASAP. Remember a cat by the name of Socks whose flier I posted yesterday? Well, he’s safe and sound at home! His person, a lady named Genia, recounts how this wonderful happening came to pass:

Hi Miss Heather:

It was my lost cat flyer that you posted on your blog.  I wanted to thank you so much because, nothing short of a miracle, it worked!  The persons who found Socks, back on Feb. 13, about ten blocks away on Humboldt, saw the photo on your blog today, and called me and sent a pic of Socks, and indeed it was him.  A young Polish woman, named Adriana and her family, took him in two days after he was missing.  She said he was sitting at the doorstep to her building, looking cold and sad, as if he was waiting to be let in.  Bless the people of Greenpoint who look after the animals in the neighborhood.  I am so relieved to know that he was well taken care of for these past three weeks just when the weather was so brutal.  So some happy news due to your championing of local causes, big and small.

All best, Genia Gould, Williamsburg Greenpoint News + Arts

Thanks for sharing this Genia. It made my day!

LAST GASP: Williamsburg Greenpoint News + Arts

Yours truly is in the latest issue of the Williamsburg Greenpoint News + Arts! A few thoughts:

1. While my portrait is absolutely stunning (thanks William Hereford!), the Mister and I cannot help but chuckle over the fact I am posed with a Mac laptop. This is because I cannot operate a Mac to save my life.

2. I am delighted my thoughts about entering politics were not excised by the WGNA’s Editorial Department— especially in light of the fact my interview follows that of Steve Levin, our new City Councilman.

Enjoy!
