From The New York Shitty Inbox: Inside The Domino Sugar Factory

A fellow named Max writes (in an email entitled “some very shitty content for you”):

I made my way into the neighboring Domino Sugar Factory the other day, and bring you this video…

Actually this video is not shitty at all. In fact I’d say this it is pretty darned cool. Give it a watch and make your own call!

Domino Sugar Rush – exploring Williamsburg’s sweetest decay from 2e. on Vimeo.

In October of this year Two Trees Management Co. successfully purchased the iconic sugar factory for $185 million. Get an inside look at one of the most fascinating places in Brooklyn before its gutted, polished up and dwarfed by 40-story glass towers on all sides.

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part III: Holiday Window Display Competition & Night Out

On December 4th I wrote (in this post regarding the Big BK Toy Drive):

…What if I cannot attend tomorrow’s event?

You ask? NO PROBLEM! There are a number of toy drop-off locations where you can make a donation (which are being accepted through December 16th!). Follows are a few:

Now without further ado here it is!

Ms. Havan writes:

Dear Miss Heather,

As previously mentioned, we are so excited about our holiday event this year…For the first time, we have asked local art students to design window displays for eight of our businesses.  We are inviting the community out on Thursday, December 13th from 6 to 8:30 pm for their debut:  to walk around, enjoy refreshments, and vote for their favorite window.

For voting for the best window, everyone will be entered in a raffle to win great prizes.  The best window will also win a prize.  We will also have Santa and Carolers as well as a Holiday Scavenger Hunt.

I have attached our poster, postcard (both back and front) and e-flyer.  Kindly mention it if you have the space.

Gladly! This sounds like some serious fun folks— so mark your calendars and check it out!

Williamsburg Photo Du Jour: Season’s Greetings From North 8 Street

As captured today, December 6th, 2012. New York Shitty analysis:

  1. If Santa tries to park his sleigh here, I’m prognosticating it will get towed. Or worse.
  2. God help the man if he dares to venture down this home’s chimney. I’m guessing he’ll be greeted by this residence’s Rottweiler. Among other things.

Conclusion: This is my kind of holiday spirit! Ho! Ho! Ho!

P.S.: To truly savor everything that is going on here (and there’s quite a lot), do take a moment to view this image in larger format. You will not be disappointed!

New York Shitty Photo Du Jour: Live From McCarren Park

Today, despite the bracing weather, yours truly went for a sojourn around points north Brooklyn. The purpose of these peregrinations was two-fold:

  1. Simply to get out of the house
  2. To fulfill a request from a reader

The latter required I go to the park called McCarren. Anyhoo, after I did what I needed to do I happened across the above fellow (?). He was feverishly engaged in collecting material for (what I presume to be) his “mancave”. As you can see this includes a used bit of (what I hope to be) facial tissue, some leaves and a stick he sported like a staff. All in all, it was very entertaining. So much so I had to film him in action. Enjoy!
