Hopefully some NYS readers will send you better pix from the Santa chaos in our hood this morning.

Indeed. Anyone know what this is (was?) about? If so, please share via the comments. I’m dying to know!

Vintage Street Seating Du Jour: Todo Libre

Last night I spent five hours doing something I have long needed to do: sort my collection of photographs. When I found the above item I had a moment of nostalgia. This, my first documented piece of street seating, was taken in 2005 and hails from none other than 80 Metropolitan Avenue. Formerly known as the Dutch Mustard Factory.

P.S.: I have more images of old Greenpoint and Williamsburg to share with you today so stay tuned!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Questions About My Photos

SHEBANYS

Eryana writes:

I am a fan of your website and your photography.  I won’t be able to make it to the opening at t.b.d. tonight as we have our office holiday party. I was wondering if your photography would be for sale online at any point?  Otherwise I can wait for January.

I have given this matter some thought. Here’s my “plan”—- inasmuch as I trifle with such matters. Life has a funny way of rendering human endeavors void and useless at its caprice. Therefore, I endeavor to be flexible.

  • I realize a number of folks are harried this time of year…
  • and for this reason may or may not have the time to swing by t.b.d. to see my show.
  • Therefore, I have posted a “virtual exhibition” online!
  • Although I would highly recommend that you see these images in person (they’re much more engaging and bereft of obnoxious text claiming them as my creative property), I am amenable to selling “online”. Anyone who is interested in purchasing any of these prints should shoot me an email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Which brings me to a question my buddy Rowan asked last night:

Will these be a limited series?

The answer is yes! Here’s the deal:

  • Lest the delightful situation arises that more than one person wants the same photograph, I will gladly oblige. And thus a series will be born! I will gladly sign and number each and every print. But here’s the catch:
  • After January 7, 2010 (which is when I will be having a “proper” closing reception) I will NOT be making any more reproductions of these photographs. No “ifs”, “ands”, or “buts”. That’s it. Finito! No mas!

New York Shitty Day Ender: Brookland

welcomeLORESWell folks, the big day (for me, anyway) is almost upon us. Tomorrow, December 10, I will be hanging my show of photography, Brookland, at t.b.d. I picked up the prints this evening and I have to confess I was very, very pleased! But back to the purpose of this post:

A number of people have inquired if there will be a reception for my show: the answer is yes. In a manner of speaking. Here’s the deal:

I have been running myself ragged lately. This is mostly due to the fact I have been trying to balance my life and this web site with the demands of this show. I’m tired!
For this reason tomorrow, starting at 7:30 p.m., I will be having a “soft opening”. I’ll just be hanging out, talking to people who swing by, etc.
In January I will have a more proper closing reception. I will post the details about this at a later date.

Those of you who looking for free food and the like will probably want to attend the latter most. Otherwise, I hope to see you all tomorrow at t.b.d.! I have put a lot of work into this show and can’t wait to see the final product!

Brookland (a show of my photography!)
OPENING: Thursday, December 10, 2009 (I’ll be there from approximately 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.)
Closing Reception: January 7, 2010 (time t.b.a.)
t.b.d.
224 Franklin Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222

As I have mentioned before these works will be for sale and will start at  the very reasonable price of $25.00!

P.S.: Be sure to check out the reception at Clayspace too!

THURSDAY: Toby Comes to Dog Habitat

lefteyeJay Lombard of Dog Habitat tipped me off to this one. Who— or more accurately, what— is Toby, you ask? It is an organization which provides free spaying and neutering among many other things. Here’s their mission statement as gleaned from Toby’s web site:

The Toby Project will end the killing of tens of thousands of adoptable dogs and cats each year in New York City’s municipal animal shelters by preventing the births of unwanted dogs and cats.

We will make New York City a true “no-kill’ city by delivering free spay/neuter services to all five boroughs of New York City using mobile surgical vans specifically equipped for this purpose. By reaching out to targeted communities, our aim is to prevent the breeding of the very dogs and cats whose offspring account for most of the animals relinquished to our municipal shelters, where they are often killed.

The Toby spay/neuter van will be paying a visit to Dog Habitat this Thursday, December 10 at 8:00 a.m. sharp.

Do the right thing, dear readers: spay and neuter your pets. I may very well be a crazy cat lady, but the fact of the matter is I am not very crazy about the number of stray and malnourished cats I see in north Brooklyn (like the lovely lady gracing this post). It breaks my heart.

LAST GASP: Let It Snow…

(Sleet, Whatever…)

I don’t know about you but on days such as this I wish I had a fireplace to lounge around and roast some marshmallows. I have grown to accept this will probably never happen. No worries: James sent me some toasty carbecque porn to warm up my cold, wet bones.

Thought you might enjoy. I saw this last Monday, but after your Tuesday post I got inspired to go take a few pics. Can you explain both cars’ proximity to fire hydrants?  And do you think Parts Express is going to get much business out of the owner of this crispy Chrysler? Metropolitan and Berry…

I don’t know on both counts, James, but one does have to appreciate “Anthony’s” entrepreneurial moxie. Perhaps someone will call him to pick up this charbroiled sedan given it has been in stasis for six days? One can only hope!
