Tip From “The Strip”: Milton Street
Shortly before the storm hit yesterday my Greenpoint compadre on the strip that is Manhattan Avenue, co-proprietress of The Corner Frenzy’s empanada and ice cream stand, Miriam, advised me that M.I.A. shot a video on Milton Street— and that there was a new mural which (purportedly) provided the backdrop. While not a connoisseur of such stuff (my tastes run more “old school”) when she tells me to check out something I DO IT. Five minutes ago.
Here it is. Along with another morsel of Greenpoint goodness!
Thanks Miriam— and see you tomorrow!

Greenpoint Photos Du Jour, Part II: Something For Mom
This afternoon I decided to take a sojourn down West Street. Despite its admittedly shabby state this thoroughfare still remains one of yours truly’s favorites. It is a nice place to enjoy a little “alone time”— and when I’m not I invariably meet someone interesting. Today I met not one but two!
When I saw this woman pushing a hot pink trunk down the street I thought to myself:
This is my kind of person.
I rushed over to see what gives. That’s when I noticed she was not alone!
After I pointed out our curiously similar fashion statements and took the above photograph I got down to brass tacks.
So what are you doing? Is this for a film shoot or something?
No it wasn’t. This very nice couple explained to me that they take photographs of themselves each week and post them on their web site (whose exact name eludes me at the moment*— my bad Mymotherreviewsmyphotos) for his mother to see. As for that pink trunk— it contained “props”. Fascinating.

*If anyone out there knows the url for this site (mymotherpicksmyphotos.com— or something like that) please share. I want to toss these peeps a little link love. Who can resist a man who loves his mom! Thanks Laura! (See comments)
Greenpoint Pot Hole Watch: Big Bertha
Given the inexplicable popularity of last week’s pot hole I present to you this beauty from the intersection of West Street and Huron Street. I have named this amazing specimen “Big Bertha”. I do not think my reasoning for doing so requires explanation. In any case it would appear what the city has failed to do (fill said pot hole) has been accomplished by our local litter bugs. Is that a Gatorade bottle I spy at left?

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Dog Run?
Hi Heather
I’ve been following your blog for over a year now and I absolutely love it! I wanted to leave a comment on your recent post about Transmitter Park. I registered, but I still cannot figure out how to leave a comment? Help?
Basically my comment is this : Do you know if there are plans to include a dog run in the new park?
Thanks!
I will take up the matter of comments with this person directly. However, I will answer her second question here and now. No, there will not be a dog run at Transmitter Park.* However, one is slated for Bushwick Inlet Park. It will be located near Bushwick Inlet. The completion date methinks is 2012. In other words, it looks like Greenpoint dog owners (at least the ones up north) will have to schlep for awhile.
