Greenpoint Audio/Visual Presentation Du Jour: Miss Heather Explains The Difference Between Greenpoint & Williamsburg
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Today was a red letter one for yours truly. Not only did I have the sheer luck of meeting a very nice lady who makes her own mead (and offered to make some for yours truly— totally free— if I provide her the honey) but I had lunch and some long overdue “catch-up” time with a buddy of mine. He’s a really funny and witty chap, that Tony. After we completed our meal at Kestane Kebab we went for a little walk. As luck would have it we encountered a tour group at the intersection of Union and Driggs Avenue. We decided to hang around a spell and see what’s up. The guide, noticing my rapt interest (and in all likelihood my ensemble of pink sweats, pink hoodie, pink sunglasses, pink sneakers and signature Chococat hat), started quizzing me about what constitutes Greenpoint versus Williamsburg. Hilarity ensues. (NOTE/CAVEAT: It was pretty windy out so you’ll need to crank up the volume a bit. Take my word for it: it’s worth it.)
Special thanks go out to Tony (who I would like to mention has started a blog of his own) for having the presence of mind to record this exchange. And oh yeah— it was pleasure making your acquaintance, Mr. Seidenstein. I like the way you think!

It would appear not everyone was displeased with shuttle buses replacing the G train this dreary Sunday afternoon.
2:25 p.m.
Then again, I suspect efficient mass transit was not a priority for this young couple.

LAST GASP: A Moment of Williamsburg Zen
While most of you were probably off work and having fun today I was busy. VERY BUSY. I will probably continue to be busy well into the night. I need relief. Preferably comic relief. Thanks to Meredith I got it.
She writes:
It is a fishing stringer (heavy duty) , a red baron plastic airplane, a set of bubba teeth, a wise man, and a stuffed toy hung on a preexisting painting. It’s pretty great.
Whenever someone evokes “Bubba teeth” I think about the time my buddy Rachael went to the Mark Bar sporting a set. As she was talking to a fellow bar patron they fell out of her mouth and into her drink. Without a second thought she retrieved them and stuck them back into her mouth. Much to the other woman’s dismay.
Thanks Meredith. I needed this!

Tis The Season: New York’s Bravest Spread Some Holiday Cheer
This morning I awakened to find a fair amount of rancor awaiting moderation in my comments queue. When I went out for a walk shortly thereafter, I noticed that everyone seemed angry. So much for peace and goodwill to all men. Needless to say when I stumbled upon Ladder 146 spreading some much-needed holiday cheer around Williamsburg today I couldn’t help but smile.
As luck would have it, a few minutes later I bumped into these guys making a routine inspection on Driggs Avenue. So I asked the driver what’s up.
Me: I really like the music you were playing back there. Who was it?
New York’s Bravest: I don’t know.
Me: You really should put on some Frank Sinatra. It’s the perfect day for it.
N.Y.B.: Whatever is on FM 106 is what we play. If they put on some Frank Sinatra, we’ll play it. We figured this would cheer people up.
Indeed. A half hour later I spied our guys spreading a little more holiday cheer on Bedford Avenue!
This post goes out to the hard-working guys of Ladder 146. You made my day!
