Williamsburg Street Furniture Du Jour: Kent Avenue & North 1st Street Revisited
June 26, 2010
June 29, 2010
It would appear that over the weekend the street seating on Kent Avenue and the west side of North 1 Street have joined their musical companion across the street.

Lest today’s content has not made it clear today I decided to take a trip “down south”. It has been awhile since I have had the time to knock around East Williamsburg and Bushwick. This is a shame, as I invariably find something interesting. This afternoon was no exception.
It was on Grattan Street that this cheerfully painted bathtub (pressed into service as a planter) caught my eye.
Upon closer inspection I discovered it was part of a larger al fresco living room suite.
The throw pillow is a nice touch, if I may say so myself. I am certain you have undoubtedly noticed (as I did) that the above-depicted street furniture clearly states it is not to be removed. Well, a sign affixed to a nearby chair sheds some light on this.
I cannot agree more. The “new” north Brooklyn is no place for such language. Get some fucking manners. Some of us have kids!

There’s so much going on here that I like I will refrain from listing them. This photograph was taken by Carnade.

Okay, this specimen is not technically a street couch: I spied it through a peep hole in construction fence on Gerry Street. However, I felt the magnificent melange of material (including a broken figuring of the Virgin Mary) gracing said sofa merited a mention. Closing on a related note, I am pleased to announce there is a Flickr group dedicated to showcasing world-wide street seating. It is called Sofafree!! and it can be seen by clicking here.
Oh yeah, here’s my favorite of the lot. It hails from Vancouver.
