This post goes out to my new friend (and author of this flier), Jen, who left me the nicest comment today! She writes:

Miss Heather,

You’ve been driving a few lovely men my way by internetizing my ad. Perhaps one of them will be Dream Boyfriend! Keep ‘em coming.

And yes, showering is absolutely key.

Jen

Glad to hear it— and by all means let me know know things go. We married folks live vicariously through you!

A Southside PSA: Let There Be Parking!

It would appear the removal of a 45 space parking lot so as to build a(nother) condominium— and the space piracy of a public sidewalk— has rankled some Southside residents. Oh yeah, if you are wondering what is written on the green tarp it is (and I quote) “Yuppy shit”.

Hello,

My name is Heather (also) and I work at Luxeye Optical. We are located on Bedford and North 7th St and just opened a second location on Bedford and South 1st Street. As part of our grand opening celebration we’re trying to get local artists to show their eyewear related artwork. Would you be able to post our call for entries on your blog?? It would be much appreciated!! We currently serve so many local talents and want to increase our involvement with the Williamsburg art community. Hope you can help!!

Here you go, Heather!

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Luxeye Optical Grand Opening Art Show
WHERE: 291 Bedford Ave @ S. 1st St in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY.
EVENT DATE: Friday March 25th, 2011 5-9pm

ENTRY DEADLINE:
March 15th, 2011

Show your art in Williamsburg!! Do you have artwork that incorporates eyewear? Either the subject is wearing eyewear or you’ve used optical related materials in your piece? Luxeye Optical is looking for all different mediums—photography, painting, drawings, or sculpture and installation pieces.  The show will be held in congruence with our Grand Opening celebration. The event will be catered and have a DJ and a photographer on site taking pictures of our clients and models in eyewear.  Invited guest will include local Williamsburg residents as well as some optical industry people—who may be looking for commercial artwork to use in their campaigns. Luxeye Optical hopes to promote the artistic community we thrive in and bring together individuals in the name of stylish eyewear, art and fun!

Those of you who are interested in submitting images of your work can do so one of two ways: via email at luxeye1 (at) gmail (dot) com or you send a CD via snail mail to Luxeye Optical 291 Bedford Ave in Brooklyn, NY 11211. NOTE: the latter will not be returned.

I encountered this cute (and incredibly shy) fella at the intersection of South 3rd and Roebling Street today. Per his “person” (a kindly older gent) his name is Scooby Doo.

And as his shirt plainly states, he is Puerto Rican too!
