Southside Slide Show Du Jour
Today as I was taking my Friday afternoon constitutional I was pleased as punch to happen upon this lovely new mural at South 5 Street and Bedford Avenue. Follows are a few details of it for you to enjoy.
If or when the opportunity presents itself I heartily encourage you, dear readers, to see this wonderful addition to the Southside in person. Photographs hardly do it justice.

Unfortunately it’s time for me to move on. The 11222 offers a small variety of shack or dump and occasionally a one bedroom (with a shower in the kitchen and a toilet on a different floor) within my price range. All very tempting but I’ve reluctantly decided to return to Queens, the land of my birth.
New York Shitty will continue to be a daily read for me, unless the memories become too painful to bear. In closing here is a picture i took of a pile of shit someone left on top of a VCR Sunday morning on the corner of Newel and Norman.
This makes me sad. Inasmuch as some say the rents are falling here (and to some extent they are) the fact of the matter is they are still WAY above their fair market value. From The New York Shitty Inbox: Rebel For A Cause
This item comes from Leslie Ann Murray who is organizing a very special fundraiser this upcoming weekend. I’ll let her take it from here:
100 Bumble Bees Riding over the Williamsburg bridge
Make your own bumble bee costume, grab your bike, helmet, honey pots and lets ride over the Williamsburg bridge. You have to wear a costume or something that honors the bumble bee spirit; yellow and black strip socks are acceptable. Be creative, please come in something bumble beeish.
Why ride over the bridge in a bumble bee costume? because bees are great, I love honey and I eat B pollen, I think it would be fun to ride over the bridge with a group of people in bumble bee costumes and also to raise money for Imani House adult literacy program.
This is not a race just a nice bike stroll. Bikers share the lane with pedestrians on the bridge so we have to be alert to the people on feet.
Bring your cameras, smiles, warmth, beauty, friends and love. If you would like to bring your instruments please do, I’m sure bumble bees love music.
This event kicks off at the Manhattan entrance of the Williamsburg Bridge at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The suggested donation to participate is $5.00 (although if you do not have the money to spare you are welcome just the same). For more information (including tips on how to make your own bee suit!) click here and you’ll be directed to 100 Bumble Bees web site.

New York Shitty Day Starter: A Walk On The Southside
Tuesday afternoon (before the sun decided to take another extended vacation) I finally got around to taking an extended walk on the Southside. There is much to be enjoyed in the way of architecture, gardens and street life or even art for that matter on South First through South 4th Streets. This area has something the Northside simply does not possess: a soul. Follows are some shots from my latest excursion to this fascinating neighborhood. Enjoy!
In closing those of you who happen to be in the area should swing by the public garden on South 2nd Street between Kent and Wythe Avenue. The people behind this sorely-needed bit of greenery did a smash-up job of this space last year and if what we saw in the previous slideshow is any indication I think they are going to top themselves this year. I am especially fond of the bird houses. Good stuff!

Southside Photos Du Jour: Poo Poo Platter
Just in time for April Fool’s Day Spacecraft present their “make it yourself” Poo Poo Platter.
As you can see some of it is rather convincing (note the presence of corn in the turd at far right. NICE.)— but there’s still no substitute for the real thing.
I’m sorry I missed out on this moving sale. Furniture, books, CDs, DVDs, Vintage duds, cool stuff and an enormous pile of shit?!? These people have everything!

Williamspoint Photos Du Jour: Hanging Out
Unlike a number of people I was not bitten by the bug that is “Super Bowl Mania”. Quite frankly, I could care less and am very happy it is over. Super Bowl Sunday (as they call it) was such a beautiful day there was no way I was going park my butt in front of a television. I’d rather be out savoring the fifty degree weather. I was not alone. The following are highlights of my Sunday afternoon sojourn. Enjoy!
GREENPOINT AVENUE
Don’t let the dour expression on this woman’s face fool you: she’s lovin’ it!
NASSAU AVENUE
I have no idea what these gentlemen were discussing but they were clearly having a good time.
MANHATTAN AVENUE
Enid’s rolled out another fantastic bit of snowflake art. Not that their clientele seemed to notice.
BEDFORD AVENUE
It was a great day to get out and take photographs…
…catch up with a few friends…
SOUTH 5th STREET
…or just kick back and chill. Figuratively speaking.
