Southside Degentrification Watch: Street Furniture Selections
Today I decided to take a walk to Grand Ferry Park. I do this when I need some peace and quiet (and believe you me, after all the Greenpoint Nazi/homophobia stuff I really needed it). In so doing I discovered some stellar pieces of street furniture. Here they are.
RIVER STREET RECLINERS
On a beatific day such as this, who wants to stay outdoors? Pop out those bucket seats and get some sun! Ingenious.
KENT AVENUE FUTON
I found this one to be absolutely breathtaking. This is because it smelled so fucking bad I was gasping for air! And now the piece de resistance…
SOUTH 1 STREET: ANNOTATED
If my memory serves me correctly this mattress has inhabited South 1st Street for about a month. Note the “No Dumping” sign in the background. So it goes. Anyhoo, in the elapsing time this item has been employed as an ad hoc public forum/chatroom.
Sleep’n on the street. Struglin.
Bedbuggin’ out!

Williamsburg Halloween Watch: Blowing Chunks
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
I have to admit, I’m pretty darned disappointed with the jack o’ lanterns to be found around Brooklyn this year. That is not to suggest I haven’t seen some cute ones. I have. But living in Greenpoint for ten years has predisposed me towards to grotesque (and downright gross). Luckily enough I found a couple of choice specimens today in the 11211. Here they are.
South 1st Street
This is more like it!
Powers Street
Ordinarily I frown upon illustrated pumpkins, but the sheer ingenuity employed here is truly noteworthy and deserving of a New York Shitty shout-out. Great job!

P.S.: I suppose no post about puking pumpkins would be complete without bringing back this oldie but goody from Halloween past which hailed from our very own Humboldt Street.

Found On Wythe Avenue: Stress-inducing Kitten
Found on the corner of South 1st and Wythe she’s doing but boy does she meow a lot and she’s stressing out my old cat
If this furkid is yours (or you want to make her yours) please call the phone number indicated on this flier. Thanks!

Southside Smash & Grab: Reward Offered
I found a great many of these fliers on Havemeyer Street this afternoon. Am I the only person who has noticed that smash and grabs seem to be becoming more and more common? If there is a lesson to be learned from this flier it is this: store your valuables outside of eye shot of would-be thieves. Keep them in your trunk— or better yet— secure them in your apartment.
In any case, it goes without saying (but I’m going to say it anyway) that if you know anything about the whereabouts of this person’s purloined belongings please contact him or her at the above telephone number. Better yet, contact the 90th Precinct. Thanks!

New York Shitty Day Starter: A Walk On The Southside
Tuesday afternoon (before the sun decided to take another extended vacation) I finally got around to taking an extended walk on the Southside. There is much to be enjoyed in the way of architecture, gardens and street life or even art for that matter on South First through South 4th Streets. This area has something the Northside simply does not possess: a soul. Follows are some shots from my latest excursion to this fascinating neighborhood. Enjoy!
In closing those of you who happen to be in the area should swing by the public garden on South 2nd Street between Kent and Wythe Avenue. The people behind this sorely-needed bit of greenery did a smash-up job of this space last year and if what we saw in the previous slideshow is any indication I think they are going to top themselves this year. I am especially fond of the bird houses. Good stuff!
