From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: More Shots Fired At Dupont Street & Manhattan Avenue?
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, WTF
Remember the email (replete with photos) I posted about shots being fired at this intersection recently? Well, it would appear it has happened again. Laura writes (yesterday, November 20th, in the wee hours of the morning):
At about 5:15 a.m. on 11/20/12 I was awakened by the sound of multiple gun shots. This is the second time our front door has been shot up. This time, the ground floor window was hit in as well.
Shit just got real folks. Closing on an up (?) note, I have received word that our City Councilman, Steve Levin, is attempting to reach out to the owner of the apartment building in question so as to get some surveillance cameras installed there. In the meantime, stay safe and be alert north ‘Pointers!

A lass named Laura writes November 3, 2012:
Hi Heather!
I just came home from helping a friend clean up after the storm. When I left the building I didn’t notice the bullet holes in both front doors of my building. Mike called the precinct at about 12:30 pm today to find out what the hell happened and why we weren’t told about it. Mike spoke to Detective Lopez who said someone came into our building and shot our doors. They don’t know who did it yet. We heard from neighbors that it happened at about 3-3:30 am. We’re mad as hell that the police didn’t ring bells and let tenants know. I’m all the way up on the 5th floor. And don’t always hear what’s going on downstairs. But my daughter often comes home from work in early morning hours and could have ended up as a victim. Detective Lopez said that the precinct can’t station a car out front to warn tenants. Duh! But they could have rung the bells! Lopez told Mike, “I’m sure they did”. Well I checked with other neighbors on my floor, and none of their bells were rung. Furthermore, I was up and down in bed last night because once or twice I heard loud voices downstairs. So I would have heard my bell ring.
I don’t care what the 94th precinct says. Crime is escalating in N. Greenpoint. I personally want to know if this incident ends up as an actual report. Mike’s calling 311 right now. We’ll be calling our building’s managing agent on Monday to push for cameras in this building.
Yikes! This is as good a reason as any to remind everyone this month’s 94th Precinct Community Council meeting will come to pass this upcoming Wednesday, November 7th, at 7:00 p.m.

LAST GASP: Shots Fired On Monitor Street?
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
Jay writes at 10:45 p.m.:
Just heard two shots fired across the street from my apartment on monitor. Neighbors spilled on to street a few seconds after. Took less than two minutes for NYPD to appear and set up yellow tape. Something bad happened but don’t know what.
Katie writes at 11:27 p.m.:
Hi Miss Heather,
Don’t know if you have seen the police choppers circling the neighborhood tonight, but if you see this you might want to spread the word to be extra safe in Greenpoint tonight/this weekend — someone was just killed on the street on Monitor between Norman and Nassau. It happened across from my brother’s apartment, and he says the street is currently swarmed with emergency vehicles and concerned neighbors. Evidently they aren’t sure of the victim/shooter/situation yet, but that the shooter ran away and (as far as he knows) has not been found. I’m not sure when exactly it happened — definitely in the last two hours.
Thanks — your blog and reporting are such an invaluable resource to our neighborhood! I’m sad to be writing in about something so awful.
Whoa. If anyone reading this has any more information please share via comments or email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.
