Spied this while running a quick errand this afternoon. Not only does this flyer give a pretty through description of the incident and suspect, but it give the Detective to contact regarding tips and that a $2,000 reward is being offered. Although a suspect has been taken into custody, and there yet to be any word on that front, this information is good to know. Spread the word.

I have received word from an eyewitness (who sent me the above photo) that a fellow is turning himself in has been apprehended regarding the rape which recently came to pass in front of 198 Java Street. This was confirmed by a very brave person instrumental in making this happen. Presently they are awaiting the NYPD’s SVU to arrive. Does this mean the fellow is guilty? Absolutely not. This remains to be determined. However, this does demonstrate that the NYPD Hate Crimes Unit is taking this downright disgusting crime very seriously.

I have been asked what happened on Java Street last weekend by a concerned neighbor. Sadly, it appears to be much worse than I had been initially led to believe. Per the 94th Precinct:

The New York City Police Department is asking the public’s assistance identifying the suspect wanted for rape within the confines of the 94 Precinct. Details are as follows:

On Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 0001 hours the victim, a F/W/26, was walking in the vicinity of 198 Java Street when she was approached by the suspect who attempted to strike up a conversation with her. The suspect, armed with a knife, then raped the victim.

The suspect is a male white, or hispanic, 25-35 years old, 5’9″ tall with  a medium build and dark hair. He was wearing a black tee short with an unknown design on the front, blue jeans and was carrying a knapsack.

Anyone with information in regards to this rape is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

Those who care to do so can view the surveillance footage by clicking here. Be careful out there, folks!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part III: Wanted For Questioning By The 94th Precinct

This comes via the 94th Precinct via an anonymous tipster:

The New York City Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance identifying the following individual wanted for a rape which took place on November 17, 2012 at approx 0545 hours within the confines of the 94 Pct. The suspect followed the victim F/23 into her apartment building and forcibly raped her.

The suspect is described as a M/B approx 6’0 190 lbs.

Naturally I reached out to find out more from the head of the 94th himself. Despite being on vacation D.I. Hurson got back to me. He cannot divulge the exact location of the crime in question. This is understandable given the victim’s need for safety and anonymity. However, I’ll note it came to pass on Kent Avenue between North 7th and North 4th Street.

If anyone reading this has any information please contact the 94th Precinct via their Community Affairs office at: (718) 383-5298.

Thanks!

UPDATE, November 23, 2012: I have received word from Mr. Hurson that an arrest has been made.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Message From Deputy Inspector Hurson of the 94th Precinct

As many of you are aware, a sexual assault came to pass on Maspeth Avenue on New Year’s Day. I have many questions about this incredibly upsetting turn of events. I imagine many of you, dear readers, do as well. Well, I have just been informed a public forum will be held on the subject of recent criminal trends— including this incident. D.I. Hurson writes:

Heather if you could get the word out we are having this meeting to clear up misconception about some  issues.

The 94th Precinct along with the 90th Precinct will be holding a joint public safety meeting on Wednesday January 18th at 7:00pm. This meeting will take place at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 275 North 8th Street C/O Havemeyer Street. At this event we will also discuss recent crime trends that are affecting the neighborhoods that are covered by the two Precincts. Including the Sexual Assault that occurred on January 1, 2012.

Done!

Quicklink: Two Greenpoint Rapes

Yes folks, that’s two rapes in one week. The most recent one came to pass in the much-beleaguered McCarren Park womens bathroom. Read it and weep.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again: PLEASE be careful when you’re out and about. Especially around McCarren Park and if you’ve been drinking. Yes, the 94th Precinct is among one of the safest in New York City— but that doesn’t mean this sort of thing doesn’t happen here. It does. Don’t become a statistic.

P.S.: Special thanks goes out to Queens Crap for bringing this item to my attention.
