A Very Special Urban Fur: Calvary Cemetery Style!

Today I had the pleasure of taking a lengthy sojourn with the imitable proprietors of Forgotten-NY and The Newtown Pentacle. It was after the first leg of our tour that Mitch Waxman, the author of the former site, took me on a tour of Calvary Cemetery.
And I learned that not all the “residents” therein have two legs!
Per Mitch, Calvary is hoppin’ with these little guys (and gals). We are talking about rabbits after all!
Here’s a little footage I shot of this handsome little fellow. As you will see he is not too big on humans. Living ones, anyway!
Special thanks go out to Mitch for taking the time to show me some of the finer points of Calvary (among other things) today. In closing, I’d like to mention the reason why he and Kevin were taking a walk today: they are in the planning stages for a tour of points Long Island City, Sunnyside and beyond. This will come to pass April 16— so mark your calendars!

This item was brought to my attention by a lady named Leah. This upcoming Sunday, March 13, the folks behind ghostbikes.org will be conducting their 6th Annual Memorial Ride & Walk. Follows is a very general outline of their proposed schedule:
Queens: 12:00 p.m., northwest corner of Juniper Park, Juniper Blvd. N. & Lutheran Ave
Bronx: 1:15 p.m, E. Fordham Rd & Webster Ave (4 to Fordham Rd, B, D to Grand Concourse or MetroNorth to Fordham Road)
Staten Island: 1:30 p.m., Everything Goes Book Cafe, 208 Bay St between Victory and Hannah
Brooklyn: 1:40 p.m., Linton Park (1 block north of 2/3/4/5 to Van Siclen)
Manhattan: 3:00 p.m., Pelham Fritz Rec Center, Marcus Garvey Park, Mount Morris Park West (just west of 5th) at 122nd St
Convergence: 5:00 p.m., Brooklyn Borough Hall
I have been told a starting point in Greenpoint has been added: 1:00 p.m., on the steps of St Anthony’s, Greenpoint Avenue & Milton St (1/2 block from Greenpoint G stop). The rain/snow date for this event is March 20th. You can view updated information regarding this multi-borough event by checking out Ghost Bikes’s web site.
Closing on a related note, I would like to remind everyone that one of our own, Emilie Gossiaux, was seriously injured by a hit and run driver October of last year. Spotted On Manhattan Avenue: Missing
No details are given as to where Giuseppe “Joe” Russo calls home— but I spied a number of these fliers on Manhattan Avenue this afternoon. Therefore, I am guessing he is a Greenpointer.
If you have seen Joe (who hails from Howard Beach and is an Alzheimer’s patient) or know his whereabouts please call 911 or his loved ones at the above-listed telephone number. Thanks!
