Spring Has Sprung In North Brooklyn!
Filed under: Abjectecture, Articles of Fedderization, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg
Yes folks, you can literally smell it in the air: springtime has finally come to north Brooklyn.
The winteriana has been packed away and replaced with more springtimey fare— such as this deliciously terrifying rabbit from India Street. And not unlike the mighty Monarch butterfly, a number of construction projects have emerged from their respective chrysalises to display their new found glory for all to enjoy.
This humdrum specimen hails from 916 Manhattan Avenue. As you can see it sports some seriously fierce asphalt siding. No more. After a couple of modification permits (and a little Greenpoint magic) it has been…
FEDDERIZED!
Of course what would any discourse about abjectecture be without a mention of my good friend Karl Fischer?
Holy 311 calls! It would appear the scaffolding has begun to come down at 200 Franklin Street…
and what a magnificent sight it is!
A number of images come to mind when people use words like “craftsmanship” “luxury” or “quality”. This is not one of them.
And last, but hardly least, what would a revue of north Brooklyn abjectecture be without a Belvedere? Good news kids: thanks to the wizards at Belvedere/Bridge Realty North 9 Street Williamsburg can now claim one of their very own!
Or should I make that XXVI?*
Congratulations northside Williamsburg you’ve just joined the club!
Too bad this sign doesn’t apply to architecture.

*Not to let them have a monopoly on all the fun. Behold: Belvedere X of Eckford Street!

TOMORROW: Adoptable Cuties At PS 9
By all reports it looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend here in north Brooklyn. After (or perhaps before) indulging in some beer and goulash goodness in Greenpoint why not make a detour to PS9 Pet Supply and make the acquaintance of some of the lovely felines of Empty Cages Collective— like sweet little lass in the following video. Her name is Jo Jo, she is six months old and purrrfectly healthy. She would very much like to have a “forever home” to hang her hat. How about yours?

Presenting “Rapey Alley”
After hearing about the armed robbery down at North 11 Street and Union Avenue that went down last weekend I have been jonesing like a lab rat to get down there and behold the scene of the crime personally. More specifically, I wanted to take in the splendor that is what my colleague Bad Advice calls “Rapey Alley”. On February 16, 2009 she writes:
Call me a wuss, but scaffolding is creepy. At least they’ve finally added lights to ours, but so far I have found lurking: a sofa (okay, not creepy, just large), a man’s jacket (obviously torn off his body), and a backpack that someone had helpfully emptied of its contents. Maybe it belonged to the jacket-owner, who knows. But by far, the creepiest thing I’ve found in Rapey Alley lurks after the jump—
Not only did I manage to locate the underwear which accompanied the bra Bad Advice found but I happened upon a lot more neat stuff (like the freshly painted but inoperative call box gracing the beginning of this post). Follow are some highlights.
Somebody’s leftover sandwich.
Scaffolding which appears to have been rammed by a motor vehicle.
Some loose electrical wires.
This. Whatever the hell it is.
Evidence of Williamsburg Nazis.
Of course if you want to see some old school developer blight you should head over the North 9th Street between Roebling and Havemeyer.
I like to call this shot “Progress”.
No parking.
The graffiti on this fence reads:
No more condos. Fight gentrification.
Mission accomplished.
