Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Smile!

While never one to pass up featuring a good “snow penis” when I see one (something about snow lends itself to such mischief), these were a very nice change of pace. This post goes out to my friend (and fellow cat lady) Heather. She could use a smile today (or four)!

Williamsburg Photo Du Jour: Season’s Greetings From North 8 Street
As captured today, December 6th, 2012. New York Shitty analysis:
- If Santa tries to park his sleigh here, I’m prognosticating it will get towed. Or worse.
- God help the man if he dares to venture down this home’s chimney. I’m guessing he’ll be greeted by this residence’s Rottweiler. Among other things.
Conclusion: This is my kind of holiday spirit! Ho! Ho! Ho!
P.S.: To truly savor everything that is going on here (and there’s quite a lot), do take a moment to view this image in larger format. You will not be disappointed!

Thought of the day: something I have become very aware of when I am out and about taking photos is the fact that my presence does have some impact on any/all human subjects I capture. Or to put it differently: all portraiture, be it deliberate or accidental, is colored by the interaction between photographer and subject.
So let’s take what happened when I was trying to take a photograph of a rather substantial construction fence I spied this afternoon. A 20-something fellow decided to wave his arms, shout:
Be sure you get me!!!
and generally be obnoxious. Would he have done this if I was, say, a 6’2″ 200 pound man? Probably not. He’d be afraid of having his ass kicked. Am I upset about this? No, not really. What this fellow didn’t know was what I was attempting to document. Had he known this I suspect he would have deported himself differently. I for one am glad he didn’t!
Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Holy Shit
Per a fellow who involved in this accident (the driver of the above-depicted car), he was driving southbound on Wythe Avenue. The yellow cab, headed westward on North 8 Street, failed to obey the stop sign. You can figure out the rest.
Apparently the operator of the cab initially tried to drive away. This failing, he then attempted to run away; a bystander grabbed him and took away his keys. Per a passerby who lives in the area several attempts have been made to have a stop light placed at this intersection. The Department of Transportation apparently felt one was not needed. The good news: no one was hurt.
