New York Shitty Photos Du Jour: Live From 201 Varick Street
When I arrived at Immigration Court this morning there was quite the Garden Spot presence in effect. Kathleen and Christina, two of the lovely ladies spearheading Pablo Airaldi’s cause, were present. As were many other Greenpoint notables including (but not limited to) the inimitable Ziiggy (as seen above in the black leather jacket)…
…and his guitar! In fact, the turn-out was such that only a handful of individuals were allowed into the court room. The judge presiding over Pablo’s case opined (while thumbing a rather thick stack of letters advocating that Mr. Airaldi be allowed to stay in our fair community/country) that he was happy that everyone who sent in letters did not show up. If I had to hazard to guess:
- He was impressed!
- 201 Varick Street, Room 1140 was probably host to more tattoos and piercings this morning than the previous 364 mornings combined!
As I was waiting outside with Juliet Linderman (and talking Garden Spot shop) a late-comer arrived. He stated that instead of possibly encountering trouble with security he buried his tools in the planter out front. Guess what?
He wasn’t kidding.
Otherwise Pablo’s case has been adjourned until January 6, 20101. Until next year!

P.S.: Special props go out to the men working security who let Ziiggy bring in his guitar! Too bad he didn’t play it for our/the court-goers edification.

Mieszko (wide-eyed): For you?
Me: Unfortunately I was born in Waco, Texas. They cannot get rid of my kind so easily. No worries, I am certain they are working on it.
He found this quite amusing.

I got a call on my shift Tuesday night from a woman in Brooklyn who is living in the New Horizons Shelter on Amboy Street with her 3 kids because her building was deemed uninhabitable. Their sweet 3 year old family dog, Missy, was taken to Brooklyn Animal Care and Control because dogs are not permitted at that shelter.
BAC&C has held Missy for over a month, but she is on the euthanasia list for Sunday unless she finds a foster home or donations for boarding. The owner and children are beside themselves with worry: they have no family who can take Missy. They have 1-2 months until they get an apartment to bring Missy home.
Missy is spayed, has all her shots, gets along with other dogs and kids. Is there anyone out there who could foster her? There is some money to contribute to food and boarding…
Today as I was walking down West Street I found something for which I am very thankful. Chez Shitty (still) lacks heat (just ask my nipples— they’ve been in a heighten state of alert for days) but I do not call a wooden pallet and a moving blanket my home. I have hot water and a roof over my head. As Meatloaf would say:
Two out of three ain’t bad.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Happy Hanukkah From The MTA!
Not really—- but I thought this subway themed greeting card (as brought to my attention by my buddy Dreidel Hustler) was too cool NOT to resist posting. Hell, it even includes the Crosstown Local! Or part of what is left of it, anyway. If I had one criticism of this card it would be this: they forgot the manifold and baroque service suspensions for the aforementioned “line” on weekends.
