New York Shitty Feral Mattress Watch: Post July 4th Special

This value-added specimen (which a fellow we’ll call “J” was kind enough to bring to my attention) hails from Nassau Avenue between Diamond and Newell Street. Lest you are wondering, gentle readers, it is still there as of the writing of this post. Cheers!

Urban Artifact: Special Crosstown Local Edition

Ever had the feeling you’re being watched? Yours truly had just such a premonition while riding our very own G train last weekend. So I looked out the window onto the tracks below and guess what?

I was right! If anyone has lost a Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo, he can still be found on the Church Avenue tracks at Nassau Avenue.

still there

He is, how shall we say, a little worse for wear?*

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Lights Down At Nassau Avenue & McGuinness Boulevard?

February 6, 2014 ·

Per a tipster:

the light on Nassau and McGuinness is totally out. I called 911 at 7:20 and no one showed up – except the cops who drive through the knot of people/cars about 7:30 and didn’t stop. I went out to get wine about 8pm and there was still no one there. Its gonna be bad.

More details:

I walked up to Nassau/McG at 720 heading home, lights were totally out. traffic was bad and impatient, so were the peds/bikes (yes bikes). I called 911, they took the ca(ll), but I got a feeling they thought I was calling about a single light bulb being out. Waited ten more minutes, worried that someone was going to blast through, trucks, cabs, etc. Other people called the pct. Patrol car w/ 4 cops (not sure if it was a 94th) wormed its way through the knot headed north, didn’t even stop only blipped the siren…

As of 8:43 it is still K.O.ed. Be careful over there, folks!

Urban Fur: Nassau Avenue

Let’s facts: squirrels are cute. But as I learned on Nassau Avenue this afternoon they are especially so when feasting on what appears to be a donut— and he (she?) thinks I may very well take that donut! As many “in the know” hereabouts understand all too well: we Greenpointers take our donuts VERY seriously!

Sort of reminds me of local “real politick”, truth be told…

Entrance at Nassau Ave (Church bound G)

Given the rather, um, aromatic nature of this subway station I have to say this is rather apropos. Well done, Jilly Ballistic!

Helicopters…

We have been hearing a lot of them lately. Those of you who heard them last night, here’s why. The Community Affairs office of the 94th Precinct writes:

Early this morning 8/13/2013 around 0130 hrs one male Hispanic 24 years old was apprehended inside the stairway of 162 Nassau Avenue. The male is believed to be the sole perpetrator in 3 separate home invasions and sexual assaults between the hours of 8pm and 1030pm on 8/12/2013. The assaults occurred on Berry Street, Engert Avenue and Nassau Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing by the 94pct Detective Squad and the Brooklyn North Special Victims Squad. Charges are pending.

The good news is this may very well have been the fellow responsible for no less than three home invasions and sexual assaults and he has been apprehended. The bad news is three home invasions and sexual assaults came to pass. ABC has more details, which can be had here.

Please, please be vigilant folks. Make sure the front doors of your building and apartments are secure— and if you see something suspicious say something to 911 STAT.
