You may be gone, B61, but you will not be forgotten.
This post goes out to Bed-Stuy Banana and Best View in Brooklyn. Not only are you among the most wonderful, intelligent and downright nice people I have met via the Interwebs but you ran kick-ass blogs about kick-ass neighborhoods. I miss you and I suspect the greater “Brooklyn Blogosphere” will as well.
Take care and please keep in touch, BSB and BVIB. I love you both! I’ll darken your respective doorsteps come spring. Perhaps earlier.
Consider your respective persons warned! 🙂

Reader Contribution Du Jour: Edie’s Big Adventure!
Okay, this has nothing to do with north Brooklyn per se but when I saw these shots of Edie the strap-hanging hamster enjoying a ride on the 4 train I went into an extreme fit of cute overload. Wanting— no make that NEEDING— to know the story behind these I shot an email to Edie’s “person”, Victoria. Here’s the scoop:
I’m a photographer for the DA’s office and there is a women there who makes these models (trains, apts, buildings, etc) for court cases, as a visual aid for the jury. The train is perfectly hamster sized so I brought my super tame hamster into work yesterday for a little photo shoot. They came out better than expected. I’m really excited about them.
Well done, Victoria! I can only hope Edie will go on more adventures in the near future. Perhaps next time she can ride the G train or drive one of those new buses with fellow rodentia in tow?* In any case, you can see more of Edie and her introduction to the joy that is mass transit by clicking here. WARNING: by clicking the aforementioned you will view images that are mind-blowingly adorable!

Reader Contribution Du Jour: Lorimer Street Nightmare
anonymous writes:
Hi Heather. Thought you might appreciate this. This is on the corner of Metropolitan and Union – the Lormier L train dumps everyone on the street to wait for crowded buses. What a nightmare for all.
Indeed. Dare I say this makes the riding Crosstown Local look good.

Word Of The Day: Foamer
Per the Urban Dictionary:
A term railroad employees use to describe a railroad enthusiast / railfan and the railfan community at large. Most often used disparagingly. (Engineer to conductor aboard a freight train)
“Man, we got some foamers ahead taking pictures…they need to just get a life and find something to do besides hang around the tracks all day.”

Crosstown Local Photos Du Jour: What A Piece Of Work Is The Crosstown Local
Nassau Avenue
O Wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O Brave new world
That has such people in it!
Greenpoint Avenue
What piece of work is a man the G train! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! In apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not me: no, nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so. — William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act II, Scene II

You can always leave it to our friends in Clinton Hill to set the record straight as to how we G trainers feel about the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Seen on January 24, 2008–a weekend when L Train service is not available on the whole line. Someone is not happy (probably many someones).
I can hardly wait to see what happens when they cut back bus service.
