Head’s Up: How To Make It In America (Without Getting Your Car Towed)
Those of you who live in and around Noble Street and own motor vehicles will undoubtedly find this item (which was posted on a crosswalk sign on Franklin Street) of interest. This upcoming Tuesday, June 7, a company named “Get Yours” will be filming at the above-listed locations. They have been sanctioned to film from (and I quote) 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and will be bringing in the tow trucks the prior evening (Monday, June 6) at 10:00 p.m. Good times!

Hey Heather! I hope you are well.
I contacted you a month or so back when I was brainstorming about venues for the Greenpoint Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry benefit concert that I was proposing. Thank you again for your suggestions.
You’ve been in touch with my friend and co-organizer, Jennifer Basset so I’m not sure if she’s told you, but we decided to make the church the venue. We’ll have food and drinks in the backyard and bands and authors in the chapel. Should be ok…fingers crossed.
You offered to help with publicity before so I wanted to check in with you to see when you would like to receive info from us about the event? It’s scheduled for July 9.
Also, I don’t know if this is something you typically do or not, but I’m not having the best of luck with gathering volunteers to help on the day of the event. We still need about 15 people…do you ever post like a “Call for Volunteers” on your blog? Or do you have any suggestions about this?
Here’s the deal: I am more than happy to get the word out about events which will help our community’s neediest. To this end I asked Kat to give me a break-down of what kind of help is wonting and how she can be contacted. Here’s the rundown:
The event is from 12:00 PM (set up) until 8:00 PM plus clean up (1 hour tops) and
we are looking for people to do a couple of things (below):1. Bartender/bar back (make SIMPLE drinks, pour beer, manage ice, cups, etc.)
2. Take money at the door and stamp hands of those who’ve entered
3. General help (to hang out and do whatever is needed, i.e.; manage recycling, trash, etc.)We are asking people to commit to 2 -3 hr blocks to help and people can volunteer solo or in pairs.
Any and all who are interested in lending a hand should contact Kat via email at: kat (dot) carlton (at) gmail (dot) com
Thanks!

Hi Heather,
I’m hoping that you might help get the word out about an opportunity to do food stamps outreach through the VISTA program. The candidate would serve in Greenpoint, helping to enroll people to receive Food Stamps. It’s a really great opportunity.
Duly blogged— and yes, this is a great opportunity!

hey heather,
i was picking up some food yesterday and passed a very unfortunate scene, a young woman was lying in the road with a crowd gathered around her, pretty unresponsive, wasn’t moving. the fdny loaded her into an ambulance, but there didn’t seem to be a big rush. i have no idea who she is but i feel awful and haven’t heard anything about her. have you heard any news? i hope she is okay. please let me know if you hear of anything. it was franklin st & milton ave approx. 6-630pm on 4/20/11.
I have not heard anything but I suspect I write for everyone reading this that I hope this woman makes a full recovery. Does anyone out there know what happened? If so please share via comments or shoot me an email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Thanks!
