New York Shitty Day Ender: Metropolitan Avenue
If Miss Watts is reading this, I think someone would like to have a word with you.

Williamsburg Photo Du Jour: Meeker Avenue Meat
Just before Christmas the Mister and I finally patronized the Meat Hook— which is where this bovine can be found. All in all I thought her to be very cute. Save the necklace of cheeseburgers around her neck. That’s kind of creepy!

Or would that be much to DO this weekend? If what I found in my inbox today is any indication there is a log going on this weekend. Mark writes:
Hey Miss Heather did you see this? Papacito’s is celebrating it’s pseudo-one year birthday and recently acquired liquor license. They’re inviting people to come celebrate with free food and tequila. Pretty cool!
Most cool indeed! Among the goodies promised are free tequila shots from 11:00 – 1:00 a.m. and live mariachi music. Check it out!

If mariachi is not your cup of tea, a good friend of mine (and fabulous D.J.), The Professor, will be spinning an evening of “Motor City rock, soul, punk and psycho-funk” at Greenpoint’s very own Boulevard Tavern. Having known the Professor for some time I can attest to his outstanding taste in music. Go. You will not be disappointed!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Rainy Day Cafe?
Tony (who took the above photographs) writes:
We stumbled upon this new place on N. Henry between Meeker (BQE) & Engert. It’s called Rainy Day Cafe and what brought me inside was a sign for Avocado Shakes. Inside, we met the owner & chef, kinda of a camera-shy dude named Nestor whose creations come from Bali cuisine, but also felt a lot like a cafe you might find in California. The smoothie was made with fresh ginger, organic rice milk, avocado, honey & ice and was pretty tasty. He also makes dinner and it seats probably about 10 people total. It’s definitely a completely random little place and not sure that many people have noticed it yet.
I certainly haven’t! Thanks for giving us the head’s up. I know where I’ll be going tomorrow— rain or shine!

Has Anyone Seen Lucy?
Nancy (who forwarded me the above flier) writes:
Hi…as an occasional reader of your blog, I suspect you’d be willing to help us get the word out about our missing friend Lucy. Lucy is a lab/shepherd mix, she was very recently adopted through a rescue org from Puerto Rico and she is very skittish. She got spooked yesterday and managed to get out of her harness on Graham Avenue, near Meeker. As people tried to help grab her she ran faster. She was last seen running around between McGolrick & the spaceship poop refinery by a gentleman on a bicycle that tried to keep up with her. We believe she’s hiding in or near a factory. She has a collar and should be approached in a non-scary way. Thanks for any help you can give us spreading the word to keep an eye out for Lucy.
(she’s my friend’s dog, that’s her number on the flyer.)
If you have seen Lucy (who, as indicated above, is believed to be hiding out somewhere near the Shit Tits*) or know about her whereabouts please call her family at the above telephone number. Thanks!
Miss Heather
UPDATE, November 3, 2009 4:45 p.m.: She’s been found!
*Although I am really warming up to the term “spaceship poop refinery”.

Goodbye, North Henry Eatery. Hello, ass kicking kids!
In (somewhat) related news it would appear 159 Greenpoint Avenue is well on its way to becoming a Latin American restaurant.
SABOR!

Lost In Greenpoint: Joey
As Tony commented in a previous post this seems to be the season for lost cats. This certainly does appear to be the case— as I discovered yesterday during my leisurely stroll along Meeker Avenue.
This handsome chap is named Joey. He calls the “Hausman Street area” his stomping grounds. If anyone has seen him or knows of his whereabouts please contact his family at the above-listed telephone numbers.
Thanks!

FOR SALE IN GREENPOINT: Boa Constrictors

I fully aware that by being both a crazy cat lady and a vegetarian I am a hypocrite; every evening while I’m prepping my “not dogs” or “facon” I am feeding my little pride dead animals. Nonetheless I cannot fathom having a pet whose “food” consists of cute little furry things with whiskers. Truth be told it gives me the creeps.
I suppose the difference is the meat I serving my feline friends has already been rendered lifeless. To each their own I guess. All I’m saying is if I ever find something like this while patronizing Chez Shitty’s shitter (or any other shitter for that matter) I’ll go Rambo on its ass.
Like I said before: I’m a hypocrite.

P.S.: While I am on the subject of eating and Meeker Avenue, Wardak Supermarket is slowly, but surely, marching towards completion.
When I walked by today I noticed that they have installed the checkout stations and were in the process of outfitting the produce section.
New & Noteworthy: Meeker Avenue Chic
I happened upon this as I was walking down Leonard Street towards Meeker Avenue. They were busy painting the interior a sunny shade of yellow.
As you can see no expense has been spared on advertising.
Yup.
I have no word on when this will open, but here are their business hours.
Meeker Avenue Flea Market
Opening Date: TBA
