A cat-loving Greenpointer writes:
My mom found this sweet kitten last night on the corner of Meserole Avenue & Mcguiness Blvd (she lives next door to the abandoned house whose stoop she was on).
Female kitten. Her claws are groomed which makes me assume it is someones (not a stray). She knows how to use the litter box. Extremely friendly (even to my dog, and my moms 2 older cats). Would it be possible to post this on your blog in the hopes of finding her mommy & daddy?
Im going to go to the Greenpoint Vet on Nassau with the same picture in the hopes that perhaps they recognize who she is.
Thank you so much.
In anyone knows to whom this lovely young lady belongs please contact her good Samaritan via email atĀ aniak (at) aol (dot) com
Thanks!
New York Shitty Videos Du Jour: Live From Graham Avenue & Driggs Avenue
After receiving a tip about— and later receiving a downright scary personal account from— the lady cyclist who was hit by a car at this intersection earlier this week, today I decided to see for myself exactly how the stop sign in question is obeyed. Or not— as you’ll see.
New York Shitty analysis:
- Props go to the livery cab driver who pulled over to let the ambulance pass.
- Otherwise, simply slowing down and peering around the corner does not a “stop” make.
- Methinks some traffic enforcement is in order.
As luck would have it the Commanding Officer of the 94th Precinct— Deputy Inspector Hurson himself— spied me walking down Woodpoint Road shortly after I shot the above footage. He pulled over and we talked. I told him about what I saw at this intersection, noting the recent accident (of which he was familiar). Hopefully we’ll see some action here moving forward…
UPDATE, 9:34 p.m.: I informed the lady recovering from this accident, who we’ll call “C”, of my findings. Here’s what she had to say.
…thank you for putting my story w. the photo on new york shitty. a friend said she saw that i commented… i told her she was nuts… but then we figured it out!! i spoke to (Good Samaritan — Ed. Note), one of the guys that helped me. he was actually driving behind the guy that hit (me) and said he didn’t stop. he actually sped up!! (Good Samaritan) has photos and took notes!!…
To be continued…?
From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: Another Cyclist Struck?
A fellow named Jim (who took the above photograph) writes in an email entitled “Cyclist Struck on Driggs/Graham”:
Cyclist had just crossed McGuinness (with the light). I noticed her bike with the flowers on the basket. I was crossing the other direction, so I heard the crash, but didn’t see it. The cyclist appeared to be in good shape afterwards. She was sitting on the curb talking to a man who had come to her aid. I only got a picture about two minutes after the impact, timestamp on the photo is 9:04. Ambulance was there by 9:06, and the NYPD removed the bicycle about 45 minutes later. Maybe someone else will know more?
Given this thoroughfare’s distinction as the deadliest in Kings County, this woman was very, VERY lucky. Still, enough is enough.
UPDATE, 7/17/2012: Here’s the 411 from the lady involved in this accident. It’s pretty scary stuff,
hey heather. yeah that was me.. i have a fractured fibula, some bruises and road rash it WAS scary as hell. i was on my way to work. riding cautiously as always.. got to graham and driggs looked to my right at that off shoot from mc guiness to see a car coming.. i thought holy shit he’s not gonna stop let alone slow down, i’m fucked. next thing i know i’m flying in the air, landed on his car (not sure if it was the hood or the trunk, couldn’t see, only felt the thunk) and i bounced off into the street. it’s a miracle that i didn’t hit my head and i’m not dead. and my injuries are minor compared to the intensity of the hit.he was probably going 20mph. he broadsided me, hardly a graze!(i didn’t have a helmet, but i’m getting one now) that’s it in a scary nutshell. now i just have to deal with the insurance company and but i have a lawyer..
NOTE: The motorist involved in this incident was not cited.

Marriage proposal starting with the word “Yo” + the Pulaski Bridge/McGuinness Boulevard + The Shit Tits = pure, unadulterated Greenpoint glory. It is my sincerest hope that whoever to whom this missive was directed to said yes!
