FOUND IN GREENPOINT: One Happy Beagle
This lovely lass was found by the proprietress of Reclaimed Home. She writes:
Found this dog on McGuinness and Greenpoint Aves wandering around. Female, no tags.
If you know who this beautiful beagle belongs to please email her good Samaritan at: info (at) reclaimedhome (dot) com.
If her rightful owner is not found she will be placed for adoption. If this becomes the case I will post an update stating how interested parties can go about giving this gal the loving home she so richly deserves. In the meantime let’s try to get her home!

P.S.: On a (somewhat) related note here’s something I learned courtesy of the peeps at Dog Habitat: you can report a found dog via 311!

New York Shitty Day Ender: Work In Progress
Looks like some new wall art is going up on McGuinness Boulevard. Per the gentleman I spoke to this evening it should be completed tomorrow!

Spotted Under The Pulaski Bridge: Seven Cents
When I saw this (which hails from Clay Street) from a distance I thought to myself:
Gee, someone has made a piece of art with resin and affixed it to this sign post. Neat!
Then I figured out what it was: a remnant of a Lucite be-glittered toilet seat. Not that this diminishes this find in any way, mind you: I found its placement rather appropriate. It does, however, beg the question as to where the rest of it went. If I had to hazard a guess I’d say it was smashed off in the hopes of recovering said pennies. God only knows stranger things have happened here.

Blue Light Special
(Or, 214 Green Street Gets Lit)
Last night I had a craving for nachos so I decided to make a run to our spiffy new Taco Bell. When I did I noticed an azure glow emanating from McGuinness Boulevard and Green Street. My fair ‘nabe being bathed in a blue haze in rainy weather is nothing unusual. It’s one of the more interesting and under reported side effects from our waste treatment plant: the lighting from the Shit Tits is reflected in the clouds above. Truth be told, it’s rather pretty. But this blue hue was very much located on terra firma. I decided to go in for a closer look.
It would appear the new condominium at 214 Green Street has spiced up its facade with blue neon lights. This building has been the source of considerable debate between the Mister and yours truly. He, on the one hand, rather likes the red stucco facade. I, on the other, am of the belief it does not make up for:
- the rather oppressive use of black brick
- the fact this building is wildly out of context with its much more diminutive neighbors.
But even I have to admit this news (and if I may so,very Las Vegas) addition has cast my trepidations about “context” in, well, a new light.
The fact of the matter is garish lighting IS contextually in keeping with the overall je nais sais quoi of McGuinness Boulevard.
And a number of the balconies at 214 Green Street (and it sports many) afford wonderful views of it.
Where do I sign?

LAST GASP Part II: Coffee, Tea or Me?

Tonight as my buddy Rachael and I were eating dinner at Casanova’s we received a most unexpected appetizer.
This kitten came tearing into the restaurant like a bat out of hell. After making it all the way to back of the restaurant she finally calmed down enough for me to get her in a box— and spring into action. I calmly called a good friend of mine, Laura, who recently had the misfortune of putting one of her cats to sleep. Tat 2, as she was known, had cancer. Well, I think you can figure out the rest.
Welcome home McGuinness!

P.S.: For those of you keeping track, last week I had to place a cat that was brought into the junk shop on a dolly. WTF?
UPDATE, June 10, 2010:
McGuinness’s new “mom” writes:
She didn’t eat all night long. She slept. Today she woke up all bright eyed but wouldn’t eat. She kept sticking her head in my armpit. Definitely looked like she’d never eaten solid food before. Well anyway, I stuck a little in her mouth today, and wow! She decided this food thing is really cool. After only one night of Bacitracin and Aloe paste, the cuts is pretty much closed and the redness almost gone. All in all, I think she’s doing very well. She was very scared the first night. After all, it’s a noisy family and we were moving stuff. She seems to be getting used to it already.
UPDATE, June 11, 2010:
Here’s McGuinness all cleaned up!
She went to vet earlier today and I am pleased to report she got a clean bill of health!
