Greenpoint Fashion Watch: Furban Jungle Update

It’s been over a week since I’ve hit you up with some (f)urban goodness from the wilderness that is Greenpoint. Luckily last weekend’s lovely weather brought out all manner and variety of animal print enthusiasts. I stalked these wild game (in one case coming close to walking in front of a moving car), trapped them on my digital camera and released them into the sanctuary of my Flickr photo set (which follows). Happy hunting!

If any of you spy the odd leopard lady, tempting tigress or— best of all— a furban zebra (which I have observed are not unlike their four legged counter-parts: almost impossible to capture) in the greater Greenpoint area please forward them to me at:

Last Gasp: Greenpoint Goes Green On Sunday!

go-green…sort of. Some of you might remember the debacle at last year’s Earth Day celebration. For those of you who are not in the know fliers were posted advertising this event all over 11211 and 11222. None of them mentioned Exxon Mobil was a sponsor. But they were. A sponsor. When the word got out hilarity ensued.

This year Exxon and their funky bunch will sport a table instead. Per a tipster:

Thank you (excised) for giving me a heads up that Exxon Mobil, WILL have a table at the Go Green Event. I will not be attending the event after all. Even though I appreciate Town Sq(uare’s) efforts, I would feel personally responsible for misleading people, if I didn’t let this group know.

Furthermore, I personally feel that Exxon Mobil has contributed greatly to this community’s environmental problems and I will continue to not attend events that allow the corporation to present themselves as an entity interested in this community’s GREEN well being. Their time is better spent on actions that will get the Creek cleaned up & the affected community greened up.

Those of you who find Exxon’s intransigence and shameless (and regrettably, very effective) attempts to buy off this community by throwing around chump change and purchasing positive PR offensive— or are simply disgusted by the useful idiots who facilitate their green washing— mark your calendars:

Mister Heather took this great photograph of a not-so-rascally rabbit getting a little play time in McCarren Park recently. Follows is a slide show I compiled of some shots I took in the greater 11222 area to celebrate this Easter Sunday. Enjoy!

Get off the computer already and enjoy the sunshine!

As promised here is a slide show featuring highlights from my jaunt around Brooklyn’s one and only 11222 yesterday. Enjoy!

Inasmuch as I gripe about the snow I have to admit it has does have its charm— as does Greenpoint!

Post Blizzard Wrap-up Part I: Best. Snowman. Ever.

This weekend I met up with my buddy Norman over at Atlantic Yards Report and had pizza at Motorino.* After we discussed the latest book I am reading (In The Country Of Brooklyn by Peter Golenbock) I told him I could hardly wait for it to snow so I could scout for snowmen. Of all the neighborhoods in all of Brooklyn no one makes a snowman like we Greenpointers do.

Well, today I finally got around to doing my scouting. The pickings were pretty slim but we must not confuse quantity with quality. I was (and am) not the least bit disappointed.

MILTON STREET

MCCARREN PARK

Of course there is no hard and fast rule stating one can only build “people” out of snow.

Someone in the Garden Spot of the Universe understood this and elected to make this item which I call “The McCarren Park Snow Mound”. I do not want to suggest that all snowmen need be pedestrian. A little ingenuity (an empty garbage can and a pair of work gloves) can reap delightful results. Case in point:

P.S.: I will be posting more photographs from my jaunt around Greenpoint in a bit so stay tuned. I have some pretty nifty stuff up my sleeve!

Upon noticing that there were a few items under this bit of Yuletide cheer I went in for a closer look.

That’s Williamsburg Greenpoint for you! Yes, technically McCarren Park is in Greenpoint.

This fella lost his antlers.

So I put them back!
