Presenting “The McCarren Park”
One thing Mr. Heather has really been getting into of late is the art of mixology. I suspect it appeals to his meticulous nature. What’s more, if the past two months of being the Mister’s guinea pig are any indication I’d go so far as to say he is well on his way to becoming a true cocktailian. His take on Singapore Slings, Martinis and Manhattans have all been tested on yours truly. I cannot honestly say I cared much for any of them.* Give me tonic water and decent bottle of gin and I am content. I like to keep things simple.
I mention the previous because I have been racking my brain to come up with a cocktail honoring the glory that is the Garden Spot of the Universe. The “Greenpoint”, “Greenpoint Oil Spill” and “Newtown Creek” are all eagerly waiting manifestation from someone’s creative ether. Unfortunately I am not that someone: I possess neither the expertise nor wherewithal to make this happen.
Luckily as I was walking down Lorimer Street this afternoon I spied a concoction which I have dubbed “The McCarren Park”. Not only are its ingredients easily found in many of our local stores but it is also very easy to make! You can create your own McCarren Park by following these simple steps:
1. Get one bottle of Sobieski vodka.
2. Add one bottle of Gatorade (fruit punch is featured in the above photograph but feel free to use your imagination)
3. Drink the previous until you pass out.
4. Wake up.
5. Repeat steps #1 – #5

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Here We Go Again
Remember the post I wrote yesterday about a flier I found on Bayard Street decrying the menace that is Mister Softee? Well, much to my surprise it has received a great deal of attention. As of the writing of this post it has been linked to by no less than Curbed, Gothamist and the Village Voice. And— as I have just learned— “professional” journos have wasted no time exploiting my hard work for their own nefarious gain. Mugsniffer writes:
I was just finishing my run in McCarren Park when I saw a guy sporting two fancy cameras talking to another guy near the pool. Being a sucker for men with big lenses, I ventured over to see what they were up to and it turns out they were from the Post covering a story on ice cream trucks disturbing the neighbors of McCarren Park. I mentioned NYshitty covering the story and I asked them where they heard about this story and they said “Curbed and Gothamist” Hmmm… no new york shitty? The dudes names were Reuben and Paul, wait… isn’t that like… Pee Wee?
This is getting really old, folks. What’s more, there are real stories to be found in Greenpoint. Why rip off/plagiarize/crib this one?

Found On Bayard Street: DADIDADIDADIDIDIDIDIDA
Last month I heard rumblings about how the green market at McCarren Park was facing relocation because the condominium association(s) around McCarren Park claimed it ruined their view.*
Not content with harassing independent farmers it would appear our well-heeled neighbors have set their sights on a new impediment to their quality of life:
Ice cream trucks. Mister Softee himself.
The following flier exclaims:
STOP DADIDADIDADIDIDIDIDIDA…
Let’s taking back McCarren Park from the Ice Cream Vendors!
I have heard Mister Softee’s chimes frequently over the last nine years. Much later than 10:00 p.m. on occasion. I don’t think they were simply shilling ice cream either. But I digress.
You bought a condo overlooking McCarren Park. A park located in north Brooklyn— an area which is sorely under-served in terms of public space. It is spring. Soon it will be summer. There will be ice cream trucks.
What’s more, the 94th Precinct (understaffed as it is) has better things to do than chase ice cream trucks. Get over it.

Williamspoint Video Du Jour: The Hungry March Band
As promised here is a a little footage of the Hungry March Band strutting their stuff at yesterday’s Kite Fest. Playing on the baseball diamond proved to be too hot to handle (because it was— SWELTERING— I can attest to this personally) so they decided to take their show on the road. Enjoy!
Those of you who want to learn more about the Hungry March Band (or simply want to listen to more music!) can do so by clicking here and here.

Williamspoint Slide Show Du Jour: Kite Day 2009
Hosting a kite flying event on a day with virtually no wind presents a certain number of challenges. However, a few of the more savvy kite lovers did manage to achieve flight— and there was more than enough entertainment to be found on terra firma. As you will see in the following selection of photographs I have assembled for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
I’ll be uploading footage of the Hungry Marching Band later today so stay tuned. Now if you don’t mind I’m off to enjoy this most decidedly NON spring-like weather!

TODAY: Kites!
If you have been told to “go fly a kite” recently or simply feel inclined to do so of your own volition (and have a LOT of fun) head down to McCarren Park today! The festivities kick off at noon.
