Hey. I just finished making this video for Brooklyn’s SHARK? The song is called “I’m An Animal” and was shot entirely in Greenpoint and McCarren Park. Anyway, I hope you like it.
Thanks for passing this along, Matt! You can check out SHARK?’s MySpace page by clicking here. More music and videos can be found on their tumblr page. Check ’em out!

If this vehicle looks familiar to some of you, it should. I posted photos of it on Christmas. In the elapsing months it would appear the bicycle helmet and Village People LP have gone MIA.
Hmm…

Lost At McCarren Park: Aka Chan
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This item has been brought to my attention by a number of people. Aka Chan went missing at McCarren Park yesterday afternoon/morning (I have received conflicting information). If anyone reading this has seen Aka Chan or knows of her whereabouts please contact the people at Dog Habitat at (718) 710-0707. Be advised that although this comely lady (an Australian Shepherd) is very friendly, she is also rather nervous. If you see her do not follow her. Simply give Dog Habitat a ring. Thanks!

I realize the above text is a little difficult to decipher so I have taken the trouble of transcribing it below:
NAME: Fredrick A. Girthwoods
DESCRIPTION: He is a 57 year old man. He is 6 ft. 22 mm. He is a natural red head. He has two legs, two arms, one head, two eyes, one nose, one mouth and 32 teeth. Fredrick is highly allergic to cream of wheat and squirrel’s (sic). His favorite food is gluten-free graham crackers. He is vegan so don’t try to attract him with a chicken leg. You might find him in the tattoo parlor, Three Kings. He has a slight speech impediment and talks with a lisp. He also touts a very heavy Finnish accent. If you see him please tell him that jingles is sorry about your palm tree Freddyboo, please come home!
Any questions?

NYC snow clean up. Fail.
Closing on a note of delicious irony I leave you, dear readers, with something I beheld at McCarren Park at 7:30 p.m. last night!
UPDATE, 6:15 p.m.: it would appear Jeff sent the wrong photo! He writes:
Oops, sent the wrong pic…that was 38th and Broadway….here’s the real fail at 38 and 7th!

This afternoon I received some disheartening news which I feel compelled to pass along. Gina Risica, one of the brains behind Red Gate Garden is not longer with us. The details are scant but apparently she has not been feeling well recently and for this reason had been seeking medical attention. She was found by her significant other New Year’s Eve. No cause of death is known at this time.
I did not know Gina well, but I am very grateful for the love she lavished on Red Gate Garden. I am not the only one either. Miss Mousey Brown opines:
…She has been the mother to Red gate for 10 years. It was her baby and it brought her great comfort and beauty in life that was certainly not all sunshine and roses.
She and I got along so well because of our shared leeriness of humanity, and we shared a bond over the little plants.
Beautifully put. May you rest in piece, Gina. You will be missed.
UPDATE, January 3, 2010: You can see some of Gina/Jeanne’s art work (painting was another passion of hers) by clicking here.

I know, it seems incredible but I’ll swear on a stack of Bibles/Talmuds/Korans/Telephone Phone Books— whatever you want— it’s true! Better yet, why not watch for yourself. Seeing is believing!
Perhaps when our Parks Person is done lavishing a little love on Bedford Avenue she could send this guy over to the American Playground? It’s a mess.
But this is not to suggest there isn’t humor to be found here: there most assuredly is! Many of you might recall a portion of this playground has been vacated by the Department of Buildings due to falling debris from an adjacent building. To this end (and in the interest of public safety) a barricade has been put in place. For those of you who are wondering: as of today it is still there.*
The owner of 49 Noble Street (the property in question) may be taking his sweet time to address his decaying building…
but at least he has seen fit to clean his sidewalk! This begs the question as to why our Parks Department has not done the same. No worries, dear readers, I will let our Parks Person herself tender an explanation.
So there have you.
Miss Heather
*Anyone care to place bets how long it will be in place?
