Reader Contribution Du Jour: Camraderie
Some of the newer readers of this site might not be aware that yours truly loves rats. The inflatable, scab-busting kind that is. For this reason I cannot resist sharing the following fella from the Omni Hotel in midtown. As you will see he has a friend to keep him company! Donna writes:
Hey There,
Since the union busting rat is part of your wedding photo album (I love that story!) – I thought you might appreciate these photos I took today of the rat and his friend the roach arm in “leg”?? For a month the union workers have been protesting the non union workers hired by the Omni to no avail. They’ve added drums, whistles and military style chants…nothing! Now, the piece de resistance, The Roach!!!
Those of you craving more rodentia goodness can and should click here. In so doing you will be directed to The Rat Patrol: a photo pool dedicated to documenting our inflatable friends!

New York Shitty Day Starter: Roommate Wanted
Last night Roommates Wanted NYC’s first roommate mixer came to pass at the DuckDuck Bar in East Willie. I did not attend. I had other plans and have no need for a roommate anyway. Regardless, I would love to hear from anyone who went to this event. As always tips are always welcome at New York Shitty and your identity will be kept confidential if you so desire.
The previous having been written— and while I am titularly on the subject of roommates— I found a most intriguing solicitation for a roommate/apartment share Eighth Avenue across the street from The Happy Store in Chelsea yesterday.*
Simply knowing there is an establishment in our fair city called The Happy Store makes me, well, happy! Knowing there is a “young” 50 year old “Irish American” who cooks and is “open minded” is pure gravy. I like this guy.

NoLita Recession Watch: Let Them Eat Caviar
Tonight the Mister and I showed some friends from out of town the sights in Little Italy. When I saw the following (which hails from Mott Street) I stopped dead in my tracks.
My god, WHO would buy— much less be seen in public— such a thing? Only a certifiable asshole would carry a handbag like this.
No one in our party saw fit to disagree with the aforementioned observation. Then I noticed another item of interest in same said window.
I guess there aren’t as many assholes in New York City as there used to be.
Who says the recession is necessarily a bad thing?

From The New York Shitty Photo Pool: Great Moments In Sign Placement
This rather compelling juxtaposition has nothing whatsoever to do with north Brooklyn. Nonetheless when I discovered it over my first cup of morning coffee I knew it had to be showcased here for all to enjoy. So here it is. This hails from South Street Seaport and comes courtesy of Flatbush Gardener. Nice find!

New York Shitty Slide Show du Jour: Manhattan Selections
Yesterday the Mister and I made a late afternoon trek to Manhattan. It had been a good while since I had knocked around 14th Street. Boy has it changed! Follows is a mini slide show of some of the more noteworthy items I saw while pounding around the East and West Village and places in between. Enjoy!
On that note, I’m off to enjoy this lovely day. If what I have heard is true it will almost the 70 degree mark. The heat at Chez Shitty is on full blast and we once again have no hot water.
Just felt like sharing. More later.
