New York Shitty Day Ender: Open!
This item was brought to my attention by a gentleman named Todd. He writes:
Follow up on your post about that Mexican place on Manhattan that went on ‘vacation’. They are open now. I came home to find the attached on my doorstep. I’m conflicted – if they cook as poorly as they use google translate… it will either be friggin horrid or absolutely fascinating. I mean seriously, what is this even trying to say? I recommend picking up the menu yourself. There are all kind of delightful grammatical nightmares inside, including a Cheeseburger on ‘bum’.
Correction, Todd: that’s a cheeseburger on a toasted bum (don’t look at me, I prefer the term “public inebriate” myself). In all seriousness, I tried this establishment today. It’s run by the same nice folks who operated New Tulcingo. My grilled cheese tasted exactly the same. In fact, the only real changes I could ascertain were appearances and the menu (for example: all the Mexican offerings seem to have been removed). You can view Coffee Friends’s menu— fabulous grammatical errors and all— by clicking here.

Reader Comment Du Jour: Has Larry Been Catnapped— Again?
I have heard rumors that Larry, our beloved bodega cat, has gone M.I.A. Sadly, it would appear this is in fact the case. His former “person”, Neer, writes:

‘Tis The Season: T & N Wine & Liquor
As far as window displays go for this establishment this is pretty understated. Nonetheless, you gotta love the Santa decanters: a yuletide gift begetting a Greenpoint king— or queen!

Urban Fur: New Arrival At The 99 Cent Store
Filed under: 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Urban Fur
This weekend the Mister and I found a most unusual item in front of this yours trulys favorite 99 Cent Store.
This little lass. Concerned, I brought her inside the store and asked if she happened to be under their employ. The look on the cashier’s face said it all: a most definite yes. After explaining I found her outside, I inquired as to what this, Greenpoint’s newest shop cat, name was. Her answer was as follows:
Philip.
You realize this cat is a female?
I replied. To wit the cashier told me she was quite aware of this and explained she had initially given this cat a Chinese name— but a customer pointed out that folks hereabouts would have trouble pronouncing it. This person, in turn, said this cat’s name should be Philip— and it stuck.
You need to get more with the times.
A customer, an older gentleman, chimed in.
“You’re right”, I replied, “it is the 21st century after all”.
Oh yeah, my name is Mary.
He added. So there have you.
