Urban Fur: Special Behind Bars Edition

raccoon

After making one nocturnal visit too many at a business hereabouts (via an air conditioning duct no less— very resourceful!) this not-so-little fella (?) will be making a one way a trip upstate. There, hopefully, he can hook up with fellow furry friends and live a long and happy life. Is this a happy ending? I certainly hope so!

Looks like someone had a little too much fun Friday night. Or something. In any case, if anyone reading this lost her (presumed) pants (socks, shoes, undies and maxi pad) in Greenpoint last night, they’re waiting for you in front of the Rite Aid at 783 Manhattan Avenue. As you can plainly see:they have yet to find a taker.

Those of you who live in north ‘Point are undoubtedly familiar with the fellow on the right. For those of you who are not in the know, his name is Charlie. Do not let his rather crunchy looking exterior fool you: he’s total sweetheart. Today he took some gentle ribbing from the proprietor of the Candy & Grocery in good humor. (Really!)

Earlier this week we had a used hypodermic needle jammed into tree at McCarren Park. This morning at 11:45 I stumbled upon the above-depicted item (whose loss I am certain its owner is presently lamenting). A narcotics problem in Greenpoint? Say it ain’t so, Joe, say it ain’t so…

BREAKING: Attempted Suicide On The G?

Those of you who have been wondering what all the activity is about at the Greenpoint and India Street entrances of the Crosstown Local— or are unaware that this is even coming to pass: I am very saddened to report that apparently someone jumped in front of an oncoming train. This is all I know presently. Those of you who are headed off for your evening commute and have to rely upon the G, the B43 or 62 buses should expect serious crowding and delays.

UPDATE, 6:30 p.m.: Here’s Gothamist’s take on what happened.

UPDATE, 7:05 p.m.: Here’s “Fox New’s” take.

Yours truly has spied a number of things placed in bicycle “baskets” over the years. For better or worse they have been pressed into service as ad hoc trash receptacles whose contents are usually coffee cups, cigarette packs, liquor bottles and newspaper. But a golf club “cozy”? Well, this is a new one. Here it is for posterity Garden Spotters!
