In a world of inflated prices you can only trust your Partner.

Amusingly enough this advertisement is for a Spanish to English translator. I wonder if it can translate, “Gee, this is kind of offensive”?

shhhh

I guess it’s still a “secret” if a lowly blogger writes about/reviews it first. In any case I’m glad Peter Pan Bakery got some well-deserved publicity for this fine creation. They deserve it.

The two previous photographs represent only a fraction of fliers I found in Williamsburg today regarding the disappearance of little Lou-Lou. Although I do not want to come off as blaming the victim the sad reality is dog theft (for reward money/resale) is a serious problem in north Brooklyn: always keep a watchful on eye on your canine companions. And please, please, please, collar and microchip your pets. It’s the responsible thing to do.

This having been written, if you know anything about Diamond Street’s found ferret or Lou-Lou please contact the folks at the above-listed phone numbers.

Thanks!

whoopsTHUMBTomorrow, August 13, 2009 the folks at Impose Magazine are bringing at home by hosting an evening of storytelling entitled “It Came From Greenpoint” at Bar Matchless. Every so often I like to create assignments for myself. This, my latest one, came the way they usually do: via a flight of fancy. One day I wondered to myself if Greenpoint, the Garden Spot of the Universe— and patron par excellence to the aluminum siding industry— sported a rainbow assortment of siding products. What you have just seen, dear readers, is the result of one month’s worth of research. There is only one conclusion that can be drawn from the copious amount photographic evidence/data I have collected: yes!

What’s Up At 1008?

August 6, 2009 ·

1008A number of my fellow Greenpointers have probably noticed activity at the long-vacant storefront at 1008 Manhattan Avenue (as seen at left). Well, I happened to be walking by recently and I asked the woman working inside, a very nice lady named Kim (who happens to be a Greenpoint resident in her own right!), what’s up. She told me she is opening a hair salon on the premises and hopes to be up and running in a few weeks— provided all the paperwork is in place.

1008 Manhattan Avenue
Brooklyn, New York 11222

OPENING DATE: September-ish

Given how under-served north Greenpoint is in terms of businesses— ANY BUSINESSES*— that serve the needs of the community this may very well prove to be a positive development. What’s more, this establishment will be run by a Greenpointer for Greenpointers— and I think that’s pretty darned neat! Why not swing by and wish Kim luck?

I’m not too sure where Chris (the proprietor of T & N Wine and Liquor) is going with this— but I like it! The addition of the black light is an inspired touch.
