LAST GASP: Adopt Me!
When I saw this fetching fella’s (who I have taken to calling “Roebling” because I think this is the perfect name for a cat) sweet mug imploring me from the window of NYC Pet to give him a home I knew I had to post him on New York Shitty. Want to give this wee little Greenpointer a forever home? Call Jessie at the above telephone number!

It is moments such as this (READ: 2:10 on a Thursday afternoon) that remind me that I live in a very special place.

New York Shitty Day Ender: A New Bodega For North Greenpoint
In addition to learning the good news about “El Blablazo”, I was pleased as punch to see the long-vacant space at 1068 Manhattan Avenue finally has a tenant. What’s more, it will be a bodega (or as I like to call them “deligros”).
Anyone who lives north of Freeman Street will attest that is there is a dearth of quality grocery stores (and many other necessities, like laundromats, for example) in far north Greenpoint. Hopefully Mini Mart will be a first step in redressing this. When will it open, you ask? I do not know— but I am going to keep swinging by until I can find someone to ask!

Greenpoint Tree Pit Watch: 1074 Manhattan Avenue Kicks It Up A Notch
There’s no two ways about it: today was (and still is) a nasty, cold and wet day. This afternoon (after some serious procrastination) I bundled up and started my “commute” to the junk shop. Sort of. As I was crossing Manhattan Avenue I saw something in the corner of my eye that so piqued my curiousity I simply had to go in for a closer look.
The guys at 1074 Manhattan Avenue (who as some of you may recall were inspired by their neighbors at 1071 to create their own tree pit seating) have spiced things up with a fresh coat of gray paint, some red tinsel and a sign reading “EL BLABLAZO”. Naturally, I had to get to the bottom of this.
Me: Hey, what up with the tinsel and the sign?
Group of Dudes Hanging Out: ?
Me: I really like it— but my Spanish isn’t as good as it used to be. Could you tell me what this means?
GoDHO: (after some conferring one speaks) It means someone who talks too much. You know, as “blah blah”.
Me: Oh, I got you. That’s the story of my life.
GoDHO: (laughter) You see, this bench is a place for people to sit and talk…
Me: and sometimes they talk too much, right?
GoDHO: Exactly!
This, dear readers, is yet another reason why I live in the Garden Spot of the Universe.

Greenpoint Photo Du Jour: 885 Manhattan Avenue
Yes, it would appear the much talked about 7-11 is back on track in Greenpoint. Do these men have the legal right to gut this property? It depends on how you look at it. The property (still) has a standing Stop Work Order per the Department of Buildings.
Yet the Department of Buildings, in their esoteric wisdom, has seen fit to issue a permit to make this space a “convenience store”. Because, you know, what Greenpoint needs more of is “convenience stores” at the intersection of Greenpoint and Manhattan Avenue.
Will Argonaut Inc. confine their “alterations” to the interior? I can only hope so. This building is, after all (and once again) as Brooklyn11211 pointed out: located in a landmark district. What’s more, I think it’s rather nifty.
Hopeful, but not optimistic.
