Hey Miss Heather,

Hope you are well. I wanted to a share with you that this Friday, Sept 10th is Fashion’s Night Out. A global outreach to get people excited about shopping produced by Vogue, NYC and the CFDA. Most of the shops on Franklin St are participating and we all have collaborated on promoting the night. I have attached the flyer for it and would love to see if you are interested in featuring it on your site. Each store will have different events going on. Some will have DJ’s, free giveaways, complimentary drinks, discounts etc. (Alter will also be selling the official FNO tee shirt as well as having a photo studio in the shop to shoot all customers who attend and of course champagne) Its going to be fun night on Franklin St. There will be an after party at Veronica People’s Bar as well!

This is the second year for this event and last year was great for all the shops that participated. Only 4 last year, this year 10!

Duly blogged! Show your local indie businesses a little love this upcoming Friday and check this out!

TOMORROW: Mister Market

This item has been brought to my attention by that dynamic duo, Tommy and Roy, better known as the Alter Boys. Tomorrow they, along with a number of other notable north Brooklyn businesses (like Kill Devil Hill!) will be selling their wares at the Mister Market. The whole shebang kicks off at noon. Why not swing by and see what they’re got cooking?

Mister Market
June 13, 2010 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Public Assembly
70 North 6 Street
Brooklyn, New York 11211

You can get more information about this event by checking out Mister Market’s web site.

In closing (and on a shameless self-promoting note) I’d like to remind everyone that the “closing reception” for my photography show at Creek & Cave is tomorrow starting at 3:30 p.m. You can get the full 411 by clicking here.

Miss Heather

P.S.: Lest any of you are wondering why I put “closing reception” in quotation marks it is because I have gotten word that my show has been extended! And somehow “middling reception” does not strike me as being very snappy.

Last weekend it was the Treasure Chest, this upcoming weekend Kill Devil Hill will be hosting two days of artistic goodness. Rebecca writes:

Hi Miss Heather,

I’m writing to you because I’ve been an avid reader of your blog for a couple of years now and wanted to let you know about an art show I have coming up in your favorite Greenpoint shop. It’s at Kill Devil Hillno furry, toothy little creatures, though, sorry! (But) I think you will like it, mostly because it includes found ephemera and naked stuff. Anyway, if it looks interesting to you, I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider posting it on the venerable Shitty and coming to see the show.

I will be perfectly honest: I do not like posting event listings. There are a number of sites dedicated to just this purpose and I find it boring. I’d rather be pounding the pavement conversing with my friends and neighbors and getting the “shit” on north Brooklyn. There is plenty shit to be had here, I assure you. My inbox overflows with shit on a daily basis. And I cannot afford to hire an intern. So it goes.

However, I can and will do so when it involves furry critters in need or the mood suits me. In the latter-most case being promised “naked stuff” and the following helps. A LOT:

…Found photos, pin-ups & male “physique” magazines.

The previous pretty much constitutes what I have painstakingly arranged on Chez Shitty’s refrigerator over the last five years. The purpose of this exercise is to skeeve the Mister. It works: he puts magnets over what bothers him. I remove them.

They say marriage is an institution. There is a germ of truth to this age-old shtick. I am the R.P. McMurphy of this household: a vortex of chaos and intransigence disrupting his (otherwise) highly structured and organized existence. It’s a fun, if occasionally weird, journey and I can’t honestly say I regret it. But back to nekkid people:

TOMORROW: Black Friday Sale At Dalaga & More!

I don’t know about you but the last thing I want to do on “Black Friday” is go to Manhattan. I would not go so far as to I am anti-social. I’m not. I like people. I just don’t like being around so damned many of them feverishly fighting over discounted goods. I get enough of that on the job. What’s more, there is no need to go to Manhattan when there are so many great places to buy gifts right here in Greenpoint. CASE IN POINT:

blackfridaysale

I have the pleasure of calling co-proprietors of this business neighbors. They’re not only great folks but their offerings are quite lovely and reasonably priced. Check it out!

BLACK FRIDAY SALE
November 27, 2009; 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Dalaga
150 Franklin Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222

While you’re on Franklin be sure to pay a visit to the many wonderful businesses located there. To name a few: Tommy and Roy, my favorite Alter boys; Word Books, Pentatonic Music, Permanent Records and Kill Devil Hill. Be sure not to overlook Manhattan Avenue while you’re at it. Franklin Street does not great Greenpoint holiday shopping in its entirety make.

Do your part to help the Garden Spot’s indie/mom and pop businesses thrive: buy local this holiday season!

Yesterday (as I was enjoying what little sunshine were are likely to see until Thursday) I spied a gentleman photographing the front of Kill Devil Hill. After musing about how original I find this establishment’s window displays I asked him if he was shutterbugging this shop for business or pleasure. He told me it was indeed a paid gig and that our very own procurer of stuffed musk rats is going to be in Lucky Magazine. Way to go, guys!

… Thursday night we are throwing a little dance party/fund-raiser magic for our pals The Desk Set.  Proceeds go towards their book drive for A.P. Tureaud Elementary, a public school in New Orleans serving students in pre-K through 6th grade.  Tureaud needs to replace the books from their library that Katrina destroyed, so come help out, because unlike after most nights out, you will wake up feeling great about the previous evening’s shenanigans.

Come down, drink, dance, win prizes, and have fun for a good cause, as The Diamond has promised to donate a buck from every drink to A.P. Tureaud for the first two hours.  No cover!

There will be a raffle conducted by Cowboy Mark* and music from DJ’s Jason Diamond and Dirty Jean. Check it out!
