New York Shitty Video du Jour: Blowin’ In The Wind
At last night’s meeting at Red Star Bar I was tipped off that St. Elia’s Church— or more specifically the crucifix gracing this landmarked property was showing signs of distress. Today I decided to do walk-by and see this for myself.
Sure enough, the wind was a blowing and it was a shakin’.
Curiously enough, nary a single complaint appears to have been filed with the Department of Buildings. Anyone care to kick things off with a call to 311?
Miss Heather

To think almost five years ago I sat in a Kent Street homeowner’s living room with other Kent Streeters getting a full color rendering presentation by developers who were going to turn this into a luxury loft building (with an elevator!)while keeping the landmarked outside mainly the way it is, actually restored. They showed us several “tasteful” options. I think the banner on the church is fugly but I thank the bad economy for this place not being turned into the much fuglier church loft it could’ve become. I like the wavy cross.
I walked by this morning and the cross had been removed.
Fascinating. Especially since the DOB didn’t seem to think there was a problem:
