Reader Contribution du Jour: Worse Than A Guard Dog?
That’s what Jay, who photographed the above item at 199 Huron Street, asks. This in turn begs the question as to whether there is such a thing as nice bedbugs? I cannot honestly say that I am terribly eager to find out…

A Greenpoint Raccoon Fact: Gutters Make Good Shitters

A lady we call “C” writes (in regards to this post):
So – raccoons AND poop! During the summer of 2010, we had a raccoon who would climb up our fire escape 3 floors to the roof of our building and then poop in our rain gutter. Seriously!
We have a few stray cats who live in the backyard, so I guess he was looking for a safe place to poop away from them. It didn’t appear that he hung out on the roof to eat or sleep.
We called around and were ready to have someone trap him, but then we never saw him again. We’re on Huron. Maybe he moved to Mark Bar?
This just keeps getting better and better folks. In any case after a cursory search it would appear that raccoon roof-shitting is, in fact, not that uncommon. Who knew?

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Help!
Heya Miss Heather,
I was hoping you could reach out to the community of cat lovers, as there is a family of kittens that I found (not my colony) and older cats that need trapping.
I don’t live in the area anymore, but come back every other day to feed the Green street cats and now the kittens, which are on West between Green and Huron. I’ve posted signs for help from the west st residents but have had only 1 response. It’s very disheartening.
I am not trained in TNR (trap, neuter and release) and don’t own a vehicle so I am looking for someone who does. I will help in any way, money or otherwise. The situation is serious. Everytime I come to feed the cats, I see a new kitten. There are about 12 now.
Again the cats are on West street between Green and Huron, behind a blue construction wall.

Thanks!

Sean (who forwarded me the above photograph) writes:
My girlfriend and I ran across a stray kitten twice this weekend (once near the corner of India and Manhattan and later on the corner of Franklin and Huron). We decided to take him in last night, but want to see if anyone is missing him. He looks a couple of months old, with black and white fur, and he’s clearly had an owner since he knows the litter box and is very friendly. He had been outside at least 2 days, but could have been more. He has fleas and might have a condition with his right eye. We’re taking him to the vet when they re-open tomorrow. Could you help us by posting his picture or recommending sites for lost cats in the area?
Done! If anyone knows this chap’s rightful owner please contact his good Samaritan, Sean, via email at: mcdonnell (dot) sean (at) gmail (dot) com
Thanks!
