Greenpoint Video Du Jour: More Fun At The Production Lounge

After a shooting and a rather contentious Community Council meeting last week The Production Lounge keeps on trucking with this video shot Friday night. Angry Grandma with a Bullet Hole in her grand baby’s bedroom writes:

I don’t know if my son-in-law sent you this, but I want to be sure you have it. RE: Ongoing Saga of The Production Lounge Lizards. This is a video of owner Joe losing it with the cops on Friday, Feb 20, as they have been at him non-stop and put a spot light on his front door so the poor guy can’t even let in all those underage thuglets.

Yes sir, nothing says “I want to be positive force in the community” like screaming at its constabulary! How can I not shake the feeling this establishment is going to be Studio B: Part II? On that note I like to point out that if I didn’t have all my paper work in order (which I can assure you this gentleman doesn’t: The Production Lounge has neither a cabaret license nor a place of assembly permit—the latter most is a must for establishments that hold more than 75 people and this joint falls under that category) I’d be a little more low key when dealing with the authorities.

But what would I know?

Meet Jonny

catadoption

Since the weather (all things considered) was downright gorgeous yesterday the Mister and I headed down to PS9 to meet a few of the cats from Empty Cages Collective.

jonnynys

The one that stole my heart above all others (and this is no small achievement— there were many a heart stealer to be had*) was this guy. His name is Jonny and he was rescued from the euthanasia list at the Center for Animal Care and Control. His crime? Having Feline Leukemia. The sad reality is any cat (or kitten) who is sick be it a mere cold, upper respiratory infection, Feline Leukemia or F.I.V. gets V.I.P. treatment at the CACC when it comes to joining this club. One which they (more often than not) enter and never leave.

But it is not the purpose of this post to be grim. There are a number of seemingly little things you can do to stop this from happening. Yes, I am asking that you “get involved” by…

  1. learning more about trap, neuter and return and volunteering at your local feral cat colony.
  2. Spay and neutering your pets. You want to end “Euth lists” (as they call them)? This is the way to do it!
  3. Volunteering at your local animal shelter…
  4. and perhaps, taking in a cat with special needs in your home.

Adopting a cat with Feline Leukemia is not for everyone. They cannot mix with “non-positive cats” as the disease is spread by saliva. In addition there are additional responsibilities that come with having a cat living with Feline Leukemia. The previous is not to suggest, however, that they cannot live long healthy lives or give lots of love. As you will see in this video of Jonny. Be sure to turn up the volume and listen to his crazy purr— I’ve never heard anything like it in my life!

Although someone has apparently filled out an application to adopt this wonderful dude nothing has been set in stone, so to speak. What’s more, he has lots of fellow Empty Cage cats who would very much like to call your home their own. You can meet them by clicking here.

A Highly Unusual Situation

Julia writes:

Dear Miss Heather,

…I hope this is not out of line, but long story short, my husband and I are moving to a Caribbean country (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) in May and cannot take our 2 cats. The country requires a 6 month quarantine meaning they will be living in cages at the foreign airport which of course is totally unacceptable.

I  thought maybe you could post their photo and mention the situation. If it gives me any “cat credibility”, I volunteered at KittyKind for about 3 1/2 years up until fairly recently. Also for random additional street cred, I’ve been friends for years with artist Chris Smith who you have mentioned lately.

The cats are both about 6 years old, healthy, loving, fun, all that.

Thanks so much for any help or advice!

Anyone interested in giving these two lovely cats a home should contact Julia via email at seamonkeybar (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Thanks!

Greenpoint Video Du Jour: Let Them Have Porn!

porn

Last night I had a conversation with someone I (and many others) highly respect. After airing concerns about his work situation (and who isn’t concerned about such things nowadays?) he confided in me that he wasn’t really good at anything but writing. He seemed to be depressed about this, but as someone who could, would, should be earning five figures as a sales person (but whose heart is lies in art and mayhem) I understood. Some people are simply not “cut out” to sit at a desk. We want to roam, take photographs, write and follow our creative flights of fancy; my blog has been a product of this as is his.

Does this make us any better or worse? No, not necessarily— but being different doesn’t pay for shit. Then again being the “same” isn’t as safe as it used to be. I know too many people who have been laid off in Greenpoint to recount here.  And many more who fear for their jobs. This upsets me tremendously.

However so trivial I take a perverse pride in my daily tribulations at the junk shop— if for no other reason because I suspect my fellow New York Shittites might enjoy them.

Larry da Junkman was sick, so he took a break outside. I, albeit briefly, presided over the junk shop. And with this came the supreme perk: I selected the music. And what did I, the decider, choose to play? The Beastie Boys, naturally. AS LOUD AS I COULD PLAY IT. And who decided to chat me up in return? Lovers of porn and Dire Straits.

Mostly porn.

There may very well be a recession but I can personally affirm the demand for porn has not dropped. It has in fact increased.

When I was nine years old I had my whole life planned out, e.g.; getting educated, married, having a “nice” job, kids, etc. Somewhere along the way I took a wrong right turn. And now I find myself being the Greenpoint masturbation mensch.

Do I have any regrets about this, you ask? HELL NO!

Miss Heather

P.S.: This is dedicated to my fellow creative weirdo— you know who you are!

A Greenpoint Blind Item: What’s Up At 85 Driggs Avenue?

piethumbnailA number of you who reside around McGolrick Park have probably noticed that business has not been as usual (if “usual” it ever was— it’s always been closed when I have walked by) down at Cup of Joes. This is because it isn’t: the space has been sublet to a new business.  More specifically one operated by a very talented baker, fellow Greenpointer and all-around very nice person (whose sumptuous product can be seen at left).

Anyone care to guess who it is?

The more impatient among you can get the reveal by clicking here. Or better yet— why not head down to 85 Driggs Avenue and see for yourself. Trust me: TASTING IS TRULY BELIEVING!
