Call For Submissions: Sex Cells
When I found an email about this open call at 3rd Ward I simply knew I had to pass along the good news here. To better understand my excitement, dear readers, follows is an excerpt from their online press release for Sex Cells:
In an age where vibrations announce flirtations in the form of text messages & conquests are captured with cell phone photos and video, 3rd Ward is challenging people to take it up a notch – a bed post notch!
This nationwide open call is a search for well-executed, erotic expressions made only with a cell phone. Videos, photos and texts will all be accepted. It’s time somebody showed sloppy celebrities and indiscreet politicians how it’s done. Redefine your phone.
The judges for this event are Chase Lisbon of Nerve and Ashlea Halpern of Time Out New York. The “most uniquely artistic, thought provoking and well-executed piece” will receive a $500 reward. Select submissions will be featured in 3rd Ward’s quarterly publication and all submissions will later be incorporated into a group show whose opening date— June 12th— has been selected to coincide with L Magazine’s Northside Festival.
There is no cost whatsoever to submit and the deadline is April 22. So get those knuckles ashufflin’ Greenpointers and send some electronic love (or abject lust) to:

Shortly after I took the above photograph a worker at this site (which is located on Kent Street) asked me if this was supposed to be a flower. I saw no good reason why I should disavow him of this notion.

An India Street Public Service Announcement: MISSING
Many of you have probably noticed that I am very much an animal person. This is the reason I feature adoptable pets on this site. It is also why I pass along fliers for lost pets when I encounter them.
Today’s item (which is located just outside the entrance for the Queens bound G train at India Street) puts me in a bit of a semantical quandary. From what I could tell what was lost was not a pet per se. However it does appear to mean a lot to its “keeper” so I am going to err on the side of caution and post it here.
You know what they say:
What happens at the Glenwood Hotel should stay at the Glenwood Hotel.
Unfortunately Jmz didn’t. If you have seen “Jmz” (AKA: ghst or Nagi) please contact ghstsnguitars at the above email address.
Your immediate attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Coming To Franklin Street: Pentatonic
Some of you might have noticed activity at the long vacant storefront at 139 Franklin Street last weekend. Well as luck would have it I know a couple of the guys involved in the new business that will call this space its home: Kerry Bomb (of the U.S. Bombs and Bad Luck Charms) and Seth Founds (of the Long Fellows). They were nice enough to take time from prepping the shop to give me the scoop.
The store will called Pentatonic and as and the name indicates its merchandise will primarily consist of musical equipment such as guitars, drums, amps, keyboards and the like.
Customers will be more than welcome to test out the merchandise before buying. A special “isolation booth” will be located in this corner for just this purpose.
This is not to suggest that Pentatonic will be of exclusive interest to musicians. They also plan to carry a selection vintage and new clothing; jewelry, compact discs and LPs with a distinct rock and roll flavor. Crafters take note: per Kerry, Pentatonic is interested is carrying merchandise on consignment. No details on exactly how this is going to work, but when I get them I will pass them along here on New York Shitty. As for an opening date, Seth told me they are aiming for April 15- 20th. That’s less than a month away!
To close on a completely non-musical note, I would be remiss if I didn’t make a mention of the bathroom at this establishment.
Not only is it appointed with this elegant cantilevered commode…
but it may very well be the only loo in all of Greenpoint whose light fixtures sport dimmers so you can have a little mood lighting with your crap. Genius!
Curiously enough it also comes equipped with a shower. Kerry quipped that they were going charge $3.00 per wash. Given that some folks in the Astral haven’t had hot water in roughly two days he might have more takers than he bargained for.

Notes From The Great Greenpoint Mac Off
As promised follows is some footage Mr. Heather shot of Greenpoint’s first and certainly not to be last Mac Off. It should be noted he had no clue whatsoever as to how to use my camera so the selection of footage the Mister shot would be best described as somewhat esoteric. This having been said, I suspect I speak for my fellow judges and a number of people present when I say I had a wonderful time. Arguably my favorite part of the evening (other than sampling mac and cheese, of course) was the raffle. In true Greenpoint fashion some hooligan or hooligans decided it would be funny to stuff the raffle box with empty ballots. You can imagine what happened when it came time to draw for prizes. It was the 2004 (and 2000 for that matter) Presidential election all over again.
But enough preliminaries— let’s get on with the show!
The owner of tbd was so blown away by the the turnout she hopes to bring this event back next year with even more participants.* I wholeheartedly second this motion. Great job!

*Such as CoCo68 who voiced interest in participating too late this time around.

Photos Du Jour: Long Island City Shots
Now that the Mac Off* is behind me I have had the time to upload some really lovely photographs from my latest sojourn to Long Island City. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them!
Footage from this evening’s Mac Off will be forthcoming tomorrow!

*Which was not without controversy. For starters Mizz Greenpoint does not in fact live in Greenpoint: she lives in Park Slope. In addition Red Star saw fit to put bacon in their mac and cheese thus precluding me from eating it. Not that this made any real difference; we immediately and unanimously agreed The Habitat deserved props. Way to go guys (and gals)!

Yes kids, that’s a bigass portrait of Bernie Madoff being rolled down Franklin Street. The man behind the Madoff (and the dolley) is none other than Paul Richard. At last we met! He was a very nice guy— if a bit coy.* He told me this portrait was purchased by a collector on the Upper East Side. Is this true? I’ll leave that up to you, dear readers, to decide.
Miss Heather
*It should be noted that he seemed very happy to know the shit-laden manties on West Street were holding up.
