LAST GASP: Greenpoint Terminal Market
This shot, which was taken by Charles Le Brigand (and added to my photo pool!) is simply too splendid to wait until tomorrow! Of the experience of knocking around this building he writes:
Today, I managed to step inside an abandoned warehouse in front of the Greenpoint Terminal Market complex in Brooklyn. Although the building did not had abundant photographic materials to offer inside, the roof-top revealed an amazing view of the Greenpoint/Williamsburg East River waterfront as well as the famous “Save the Palestine” water tower located in the heart of the neighborhood.
Lovely capture!

I just published a photo essay on the Greenpoint Terminal Market, looking at the remaining spaces in the complex. Thought you might find it interesting.
Very interesting indeed! In all seriousness this is really good stuff. Check it out!

LAST GASP: Bring To Light
This item comes courtesy of Gregor Nemitz-Ziadie, the mastermind behind Williamsburg Walks. He writes:
I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to mention to you that Williamsburg Walks’ genius partners – DoTank:Brooklyn – are adapting the famous concept of “Nuit Blanche” – which begun in 1997 in Paris, Berlin and St. Petersburg – to the neighborhood. On October 2, from sunset to dawn, the streets of Greenpoint will host Bring to Light an all-night public art festival. The first ever “Nuit blanche” in NYC. Link to the press releaseBest,
Grégor
This sounds like serious fun. Check it out!

No, not really! It’s a film shoot for Rescue Me. Lisacat (who took the above footage and photograph) notes:
Filming RESCUE ME with stage smoke and flames in the St. Cecilia’s Rectory building. Nice to learn series creator and actor, Dennis Leary is also an animal person.
Closing on a related note, Rescue Me will be setting the Greenpoint Terminal Market on fire for our collective post-May 2, 2006 dark delectation this evening. Fortunately this time the Fire Department will be on hand before anything goes up in flames. You can learn more about tonight’s fire works by pointing and clicking your way over to Gothamist.

Greenpoint Street Art Du Jour: The Battle Of West Street
Filed under: Greenpoint Magic
Lest my previous posts have not made it clear West Street is one of my favorite thoroughfares in Greenpoint. I suspect the reason for this there is very little in the way traffic— or people, for that matter— to distract me from my thoughts. In a city of over 8,000,000 people this is one of a very few places I can be guaranteed “alone time”. Except for yesterday. It was hopping.
I found this battle in progress between Oak and Calyer Street. As some of you might remember I found something remarkably similar to this on Flushing Avenue by the Navy Yard last November. Exactly what does this mean, you ask? I honestly don’t know— but it was a most unexpected and fun discovery to be had on a Sunday afternoon nonetheless!
