New York Shitty Day Ender: From Greenpoint With Love

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Compostoberfest

If there is one thing yours truly does not possess, it is a green thumb. For this reason I leave all things green to the experts. In this case “Typing Wermz” who, despite being bereft of a thumb— be it green or otherwise (or fingers for that matter)— were kind enough to bring this event to my attention. He/she/they (?) write:

Hello composters!

We are coming out of the woodwork for a fun educational event this weekend. In partnership with GrowNYC and the Newtown Creek Alliance Compost Workgroup, we will be diverting part of the Saturday haul from the Greenmarket compost collection in McCarren and mixing up a special batch of compost at our site.

Come learn about existing citywide compost initiatives!
Come learn about compost cooking!
Come get some hands-on experience at North Brooklyn Compost Project!

Now For Sale In “Little Poland”: Uncle Joe

In one of the more interesting (and perhaps fitting) Halloween displays to manifest on Manhattan Avenue, I present for your viewing pleasure “Uncle Joe”. This red wine hails from (where else?) Georgia and can be seen gracing the window of Z & Wine & Liquors. Note the red velvet coverlet and mischievous glint in Mr. Stalin’s eye. Has he just perpetrated a(another) purge— or is he simply waiting to come home with you? There’s only one way to find out I suppose…

The Word On The Street, Part II: Special Bloomblight Edition

This rather colorful missive is one of the many curiosities to be found on the premises of 164-264 West Street.

Or at least what used to be 164-264 West Street.

New York Shitty analysis: those who wish to enjoy our waterfront might want to walk on the other side of the street.

New York Shitty Street Seating Du Jour: Special Waterfront/Non-Materialistic Lounge Suite* Edition

As many of my fellow north ‘Pointers can attest, we have a dearth of public space on our waterfront. For this reason our very own Open Space Alliance teamed up with a developer and brought us the Java Street Pop-up Park. This morning I decided to swing by and see how it was faring. If the above photograph (of what appears to be no less than a La-Z-Boy sofa) is any indication, someone has made himself (?) quite comfortable. Follows are a few more shots from my sojourn. Enjoy!

*Because this is my blog and I can…
