New York Shitty Slide Show Du Jour: Two Feet, Two Boroughs, Three Bridges & Four Hours

As I intimated yesterday I took a four hour photo walk with an occasional contributor to the New York Shitty photo pool and full-time Greenpointer: Noah Devereaux. He was the tour guide. Where he went, I followed. Chattering a great deal of the way. The following should give you some idea of our route.

We started at Greenpoint and Manhattan Avenue at 6:00 p.m. and, almost four hours later, ended up back there. The following slide show (including the lovely, if surreal, shots of the ecological wonder that is English Kills— which grace the beginning of this post) features everything in between. Enjoy!

As always you can (and should) view these images in large format by clicking here.

I have received no less than two emails from my fellow citizens shocked and awed by what appears to be some semblance of maintenance at the Greenpoint Avenue stop of the Crosstown Local.

Cat (who took the photograph gracing the beginning of this post) writes in an email entitled “Subway improvement?!” :

Saw this happening on the Queens bound platform of the greenpoint station this morning. Im fairly certain you posted a pic of it a while back. Perhaps the shitty, dilapidated mosaic will get a makeover?

John (who took the above photograph) opines:

Hell freezes over and they fix the signage at the Greenpoint ave G stop!

Indeed. Although I will sort of miss the “repair” job they did by placing cement in the missing tile work and employing appears to be a Sharpie marker to fill in the black spaces. One simply does not see that kind of ingenuity every day. Unless of course he (or she) happens to ride the Crosstown Local!

Lost In Greenpoint: Anna Konik

I found these fliers around Manhattan Avenue and Greenpoint Avenue this afternoon while running errands. If you have seen Anna or know of her whereabouts (she was last seen around Eagle Street) please contact her loved ones at the above-listed telephone numbers. I have little doubt they are worried sick. Thanks!

FOUND IN GREENPOINT: One Happy Beagle

This lovely lass was found by the proprietress of Reclaimed Home. She writes:

Found this dog on McGuinness and Greenpoint Aves wandering around. Female, no tags.

If you know who this beautiful beagle belongs to please email her good Samaritan at: info (at) reclaimedhome (dot) com.

If her rightful owner is not found she will be placed for adoption. If this becomes the case I will post an update stating how interested parties can go about giving this gal the loving home she so richly deserves. In the meantime let’s try to get her home!

P.S.: On a (somewhat) related note here’s something I learned courtesy of the peeps at Dog Habitat: you can report a found dog via 311!

Hi Heather

I’ve been following your blog for over a year now and I absolutely love it!  I wanted to leave a comment on your recent post about Transmitter Park.  I registered, but I still cannot figure out how to leave a comment?  Help?

Basically my comment is this :  Do you know if there are plans to include a dog run in the new park?

Thanks!

I will take up the matter of comments with this person directly. However, I will answer her second question here and now. No, there will not be a dog run at Transmitter Park.* However, one is slated for Bushwick Inlet Park. It will be located near Bushwick Inlet. The completion date methinks is 2012. In other words, it looks like Greenpoint dog owners (at least the ones up north) will have to schlep for awhile.

Greenpoint Pay Phone Du Jour: Munchies

More often than not the Garden Spot’s public pay phones are a haven for empty with fifths of vodka, brandy and/or packs of cigarettes. So you can imagine my surprise when I spied this array of sensible snacks (replete with Hi-C!) at Greenpoint Avenue this afternoon. Could this be yet another sign of Greenpoint gentrification? I’ll let you, dear readers, make the call.

Crosstown Local Photo Du Jour: The Expendables

As far as subway poster mash-ups go this one is not terribly elegant. However, I found Mickey Rourke being reassigned top billing compelling.
