Spotted On West Street: A Very Special Employment Opportunity

This week a friend of mine, upon reading my horoscope, informed me I would have a career opportunity this week. Thus, you can imagine my surprise (subsequent disappointment) when I encountered the above solicitation on West Street this afternoon. While I may be a wee bit too— how shall we say— “long in the tooth” for the above position, I do feel compelled to pass it along here lest any “fun” and “open-minded” Greenpoint gals find it of interest. My advice: it has been your truly’s observation that when a fellow seeks a woman with an open mind, her legs are expected to follow suit.

In closing, this is as sterling an opportunity as any to announce that New York Shitty is looking for interns! Sorry ladies, men need only apply. Those who are curious as to what this prestigious (READ: UNPAID) sinecure entails, please take a moment to watch the following video.

Just kidding.

New York Shitty Day Starter: A Request From The Head of the 94th Precinct

D.I. Hurson writes (on May 16th):

Today we arrested someone in the act of stealing a bicycle (which is as easy as finding a needle in a haystack). The problem is we can not find the owner. Could you post a picture on your blog to help identify the owner? The bicycle was stolen from Leonard and Greenpoint today.

Done! If this bike belongs to you— or you know to whom it does belong— please swing by the 94th or give them a ring at (718) 383-3879.

UPDATE, 10:17 p.m.: If a commenter is to be believed, this park is not officially open to the public— not that anyone is actually doing anything about it, mind you. He/she writes:

At around 8:30 P.M. today a local lady was calling 911 on all the people in Transmitter Park in Greenpoint because its not open. 311 and the construction comp dont care. She told me they broke the lock on the gate. I told her there is not any lock nor is there a chain. She stilled just continued to call numbers on her cell. lol

Whoops.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Skimmed?

An anonymous tipster writes:

Hey Heather,

Thought I’d give you a heads up- someone installed a skimmer on the door card reader for the Greenpoint HSBC branch.  My card was copied, and someone took $1000 out of my account (not that I had $1000, but now I have $850 overdrafted and am missing $150).  One of the workers at the branch said it happened last Sunday, and I just today got the call from the fraud department.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know, if you wanted to post up on NYS just in case other people have been scammed 🙁

Thanks as always for the intrepid reporting! 🙂

Yikes! Exercise caution, folks. You can get some tips on how to spot “skimmers” by clicking here.
