THIS WEEKEND: Sip & Shop
Yesterday I shared with you the good news (for holiday shopping procrastinators like myself, anyway) about the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Holiday Flea Market. Well, I have even more local shopping goodness to pass along: there will be a second sale the same day only blocks away!
Among the goodies promised at this event are vintage apparel, hatboxes, decorative items, kitschy curiosities and “retro drink specials”. Although I myself make it a point to never drink and shop (it’s hazardous to my wallet) this sounds like a mighty fun way to get one’s holiday shopping done while buying local. Check it out!

Dung of the Day: Reading is Fundamental
Filed under: 11222, Bum Shit, Dog Shit, Dung of the Day, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Other Shit
This weekend I bumped into my buddy Beatrice, the lovely lady and former proprietress of Casa Mon Amour. After much catching up she busted my chops for deviating from my web site’s initial premise: shit. I explained to her that there is so much of interest going on in our humble ‘burgh that merde has fallen by the wayside. What’s more, over the years I have become much more selective about the scatological specimens I feature.
Luckily for her I found I most tantalizing tableau today right next door to the Viridian* at the South China Import Company! I will start with the arrow at far left.
Someone (or something) had a problem.
An attempt was made to clean up the problem using a flier advertising a summer shindig in Bridgeport, Connecticut: Gathering of the Vibes.
When this failed our intrepid pooper scooper used what was at hand. In this case, a paperback copy of Milan Kundera’s Book of Laughter and Forgetting.
Am I the only person who finds this sort of depressing?

*Whose craftsmanship, I assure you, is stellar as ever.
I have no idea what this is about— and truth be told I don’t think I want to know. What I can tell you is it obstructs the sidewalk and I am none too happy about it.
Yes sir. I imagine this piece of affordable housing will find a tenant in no time!

Burglary On Green Street?
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
It has not been a good month for Neer, better known to many of you as one of the lovely ladies who works at A.J. Farms bodega at Green Street and Manhattan Avenue. First it was the catnap and subsequent return of Larry the cat (who can be seen at left). Now her apartment has been burglarized! But this is a lot more disturbing than a mere act of theft— as I learned when I spoke to her last night. Here’s a basic rundown of what happened.
The incident came to pass at 5:00 a.m. last Saturday morning. Here sister awakened to see a man looking around her room. She asked who was there and the man (who was described as being about six feet tall) bolted. They searched the apartment and noticed a number of items of value were missing, including her i-Phone. Neer called it twice. The first time she got no answer. The second time a voice said:
Manhattan and India, ATM, florist
Not wishing to put herself in danger, Neer did not go the location in question. She called the police. However, she later received a call from the florist: they had found her cell phone at the ATM in question. This has since been returned to her.
As you can imagine this incident has upset her tremendously. It’s bad enough to be robbed— but while you are sleeping? That’s just plain scary! Apparently the superintendent of the building in question added insult to injury by not seeming to be concerned. It has not been established whether or not the front door to her apartment was picked or if it had been left unlocked. B if you ask me that’s not terribly important all things considered: someone robbed her apartment while she, her sister and roommate slept!
Let this be a warning to you fellow readers: be mindful of who enters and exits your apartment building and make sure your front door is locked when you go to bed!

Greenpoint Photos du Jour: Tooling Around The Shit Tits
Not surprisingly I have yet to get around to casting my ballot on this most auspicious day. There’s no need to worry, dear readers, I will perform my civic duty. Let’s just say I am not terribly enthusiastic about it. In fact, I whiled away a great deal of the afternoon walking around the sewage treatment plant and Blissville. If this is not a testament to how distasteful I find this year’s batch of candidates I do not what is. But I digress. Follows are a few highlights from my walk around the crappiest part of Greenpoint. Enjoy!

Java Street

This concludes the Greenpoint segment of today’s sojourn. Later I will post some highlights from the other side of the bridge: Blissville!
