THIS WEEKEND: More Cat & Kitten Adoption Goodness!

Earlier today I shared with you the good news about Empty Cages Collective’s adoption event tomorrow at PS9. Well, there will be even more adoptable cutie goodness on Sunday at Williamspoint’s very own Muddy Paws.

As it would happen I know the folks who operate North Brooklyn Cats. Not only are they extremely dedicated, but they’re incredibly nice ladies to boot! Why not swing by and make the acquaintance of some of the finest felines to grace the Garden Spot of the Universe? Follows is a little footage of Avon (courtesy of Lisacat) to get you in the adoptable cutie spirit!

Has Anyone Seen Lucy?

Nancy (who forwarded me the above flier) writes:

Hi…as an occasional reader of your blog, I suspect you’d be willing to help us get the word out about our missing friend Lucy. Lucy is a lab/shepherd mix, she was very recently adopted through a rescue org from Puerto Rico and she is very skittish. She got spooked yesterday and managed to get out of her harness on Graham Avenue, near Meeker. As people tried to help grab her she ran faster. She was last seen running around between McGolrick & the spaceship poop refinery by a gentleman on a bicycle that tried to keep up with her. We believe she’s hiding in or near a factory. She has a collar and should be approached in a non-scary way. Thanks for any help you can give us spreading the word to keep an eye out for Lucy.

(she’s my friend’s dog, that’s her number on the flyer.)

If you have seen Lucy (who, as indicated above, is believed to be hiding out somewhere near the Shit Tits*) or know about her whereabouts please call her family at the above telephone number. Thanks!

Miss Heather

UPDATE, November 3, 2009 4:45 p.m.: She’s been found!

*Although I am really warming up to the term “spaceship poop refinery”.

This item comes courtesy of my buddy Bitchcakes. Here’s the 411 per their email announcement:

Try and come by for our annual Dia de los Muertos holiday at our coffee bar where we honor our passed family and friends with food, drinks (e,g, new Azteca mex chocolate/espresso shots), decor, and more. Pass flyer on to your friends!

Although the official celebration is Monday afternoon after 6pm, the coffee bar will have the traditional ofrenda (altar) loaded with pictures and mementos of lost loved ones this weekend til next weekend. I’ll be working Saturday early afternoon til 3pm and Sunday morning til 1:30. Try our tamale plates (w/ elote/Mexican corn) and mexican mocha IF you haven’t been by yet.

I have tried the Mexican mocha. It is nothing short of amazing. Coupled with their tamales you have a winning combination!

The Purrrrfect Halloween Kitty: Greenpoint Grace

Remember Ving? If you don’t the following passage might refresh your memory. On June 2, 2009 I wrote:

…Someone, for reasons only known to him, saw fit to shave him: ear hair, whiskers and all.

We eventually drifted onto the subject of what to name this handsome chap. Lisa suggested that since he has been shorn we name him after a famous bald person. I immediately thought of Ving Rhames, as just like in the movie Pulp Fiction this little guy has had an encounter with someone he would just as well forget (WARNING: previous link is very NSFW) and quite frankly, whoever that person is, I too would very much like to go medieval on his ass.

Well, he is a she. Ving is Grace, she’s recovered (under Lisacat’s care) and is downright GORGEOUS!

GRACElisacat

Grace (and a few of her friends) will be holding court at Muddy Paws today starting at 2:00 p.m. She’s been spayed, vaccinated and is feline Leukemia and FIV free.  All she needs is a home— maybe yours?

Hi Miss Heather, If you have a chance, can you post this for my friends Veronica & Lori?

Thanks!

I will gladly give this event a shout out. Not only does the Beaner Bar serve up some incredible tamales (which I have previously featured on this site) but their Mexican style hot chocolate is the perfect companion for this crisp fall weather. Among the goodies offered at this, their first year anniversary celebration, are:

  • Special tamale plates
  • Coffee specials
  • Gift bags
  • Mariachi music
  • And much more!

Check it out— and if you have yet to try their fabulous tamales by all means do so. You will not regret it!

TODAY: Adoptable Cuties At Muddy Paws

The Bountys are a quintet of winsome tabbies that were rescued with the help of crew members from the Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler vehicle being filmed in our ‘hood.

Toytime

Three have been adopted. Two await good homes— maybe yours? First up: Bounty

Why this Greenpoint girlie hasn’t been adopted is beyond me. Bounty is adorable and packs a pint-sized punch!

MILOlisacatNYS

Milo is more pensive— as you can see in the above photograph by Lisacat.

These two Greenpoint cuties (and a few of their feline friends) will be available for adoption today at Muddy Paws. Check it out!

This post is dedicated to Mister Heather— who not only identified the airplane in question as a B-52* but humored me when I stopped to take this photograph while we were walking home. He was grumpy because he didn’t get dessert.
