New York Shitty Day Starter: AUSNY For The (m)Asses

This festive display of asswipes hails from a Graham Avenue 99 Cent Store. This product, Ausny (which, it has been noted takes simple transposition of letters to spell (“Anusy”), purports not only to be “ultra soft” and “3 ply” but is also “sterilized”! What I want to know is how the merry folk who grace said package factor into this? Are they the humanoid equivalent to the Dow scrubbing bubbles? Methinks I’ll field test it on the Mister and find out!

Miss Heather

UPDATE, March 12, 2010: It has been brought to my attention by a chap named Larry that the maker of this product also produces green tea flavored condoms. This begs the question as to when the wizards at Ausny will roll out green-tea infused toilet paper? North Brooklyn’s buttholes only deserve the very best!

P.S.: When I mentioned to the Mister that I photographed “a festive bunch of asswipes”. He assumed I meant hipsters. I was, in fact, speaking in reference to toilet paper. Picking on hipsters is boring. Assholes come in all ages and from every imaginable socio-economic background. On the other hand, toilet paper packaging that looks like an entire legion of McCarren Park Pool partiers are eager to wipe my ass. Well, that is something I can get behind!

LAST GASP: Much Ado About Animals!

Starting tomorrow there will be a number of animal-related events in Williamsburg and beyond. Here they are in chronological order:

Tomorrow, March 5, 2010 starting at 10:00 p.m. New York City’s Animal Shelter Map, Trails to Tails will be unveiled on the steps of City Hall. A couple of north Brooklyn institutions will be present including BARC and our very own Assemblyman, the ubiquitous Joe Lentol! I have it on very good intelligence that these maps are pretty darned neat. If you have the time and/or ability to swing by, check it out! If nothing else, it will be an excellent opportunity to inquire of our fair Mayor as to why the Center for Animal Care & Control is so destitute they are soliciting donations for food.

New York, New York 10007

Next up, North Brooklyn Cats will be having an adoption event at Muddy Paws Saturday, March 6 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Among the fetching felines to be featured are:

Noah…

and his sister Lilith

Wallaby…

and many, many more. In closing, I would like to point out that a good friend of mine recently adopted a rescue from this organization. His name is Bug (!) and you can see pictures of him enjoy his life of luxury (at least inasmuch as his big sis permits) by clicking here.

Last up, Greenpoint’s very own Empty Cages Collective will be having an adoption event this upcoming Sunday, March 7 starting at at 12:30 p.m. at PS9 Pet Supply. As some of you might recall these folks had an event last month at 8 of Swords Tattoo. I later learned they received no less than four adoption applications and a generous $100 donation from a New York Shitty reader. Me-OW!

While I do not condone criminal activity I have to confess the trucker bomb is a very nice coup de grace. A final “fuck you” to “the man”, if you know what I mean.

TODAY: Cat & Kitten Adoption Event at Muddy Paws

Today from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. some of my favorite north Brooklyn cat ladies will be having an adoption event at Williamspoint’s very own Muddy Paws. I have it on very good intelligence the lass you see to the left, Cristal, and her fellow bottle babies Dom and Taittinger will be among the cats and kittens wishing to make the acquaintance of someone (perhaps you?) who will give them a loving, lasting home. Lest you are wondering why this trio is named after champagne, I will tell you: they were rescued from a kill shelter on New Year’s Eve. Why not swing by and say “Hi”? Who knows, you might make a new feline friend— or two?

In closing, I will leave you with this footage of Cristal, Dom and Taittinger with their foster mom: a pup named “Spoto”. Be sure to listen for Dom’s ferocious growl at the very end. Too cute!

A Williamspoint PSA: The Cooper Bark Calendars Are In!

cooperbark

Needless to say when I received word from the head honcho of the Cooper Park Dog Run that the 2010 Dogs of Cooper Bark calendars are in I simply had to pass it along here. The purchasers of this delightful and very affordable product (they’re priced at a measly $15.00 a pop!) will not only have the some of Williamspoint’s most comely canines grace their wall for an entire year, they will also be supporting a wonderful cause: a portion of the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Cooper Park Dog Run! In years past these calendars have provided funding for such improvements as new fencing and furniture. Why not lend ’em a hand (or would that be paw?) this year and purchase one of these calendars? They make great gifts!

Interested parties can purchase the Dogs of Cooper Bark calendar at Muddy Paws:

447 Graham Avenue
Brooklyn, New York 11211

or online via paypal at: info@cooperbark.org

Be sure to include your name, contact information and an additional $5.00 (making the grand total $20.00) for shipping and handling.

Greenpoint Photos du Jour: Zeitgeist

November 8, 2009 ·
Filed under: 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Street Furniture

Today’s “day starter” was probably a more than ample indication that I kicked off this beautiful day in a rotten mood. For those of you who are not “in the loop” I will use this post as my personal wailing wall:

  • Friday morning Chez Shitty had neither heat nor hot water.
  • Friday night Chez Shitty had heat and hot water.
  • Saturday night Chez Shitty had ample heat and NO hot water.
  • Sunday morning Chez Shitty was sweltering but no hot water was to be had from our taps.

After some investigation on the Mister’s and my part we deduced that only one of the three plumbing stacks in our building were, in fact, providing hot water. Or to put it another way: only one third of our building had hot water. Yet we were the first and to my knowledge, ONLY, people to complain about this. Go figure.

I consider myself to be a pretty simple person. I don’t ask for much. Life promises very little other than paying taxes and dying. I endeavor to use the time I have to enjoying myself, getting to know people and helping make my neighborhood a better place for those who are here presently and those will (inevitably) come.

The previous are difficult to do when one’s hair looks reminiscent of Don King in his prime and one’s skin is itching for lack of proper hygiene. A number of people (the Mister included) romanticize foreign locales or “the good old days”. I am not one of these people. I do not want to live in a world without:

  • Penicillin
  • Woman having the right to vote
  • Legalized birth control
  • Indoor plumbing/sanitation

And the all too relevant subcategory under “Indoor plumbing/sanitation”: HOT WATER. Does this make me arrogant American? I think not. I believe the latter most three points to be a human right (as a majority of humans populating planet earth are women). The first is a given— or if it isn’t— it should be.

Then again, I think feminine hygiene products (and birth control, for that matter) should be free. This may strike some as socialism but I see it as common sense. Viagra and its numerous brethren are covered by many health care plans in New York State but birth control and maxi pads aren’t. And now, thanks to certain politicians those who may have to seek the recourse of abortion, can’t .*

A friend of mine was once told (by a female practitioner, no less):

If you want to play, you gotta pay.

What is wrong with this picture? As I made it clear at the beginning of this post, dear readers, I am NOT in a good mood. But I digress.

This morning I was faced with two options:

  1. Stay home and fume over having no hot water.
  2. Go for a walk and fume over having no hot water.

I chose the latter. Follow are highlights from my jaunt with commentary. Enjoy!

A flickr contact of mine, Jon Feinstein (a very talented photographer), documented something identical to this in Williamsburg. He tagged his photograph as being “antisemitism”. I’m not certain if that is what is going on here.

But this annotation certainly suggests antisemitism on someone’s part. Which party, I do not know.

And last, but hardly least, what is probably the best piece of street seating I have ever beheld!
