New York Shitty Video du Jour: Graham Avenue Sausagefest
Filed under: 11211, Criminal Activity, East Williamsburg, East Williamsburg Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
Today started on a dull, if slightly aggravating, note for yours truly. Since the temperature was mild I decided to brave the rain and go for a walk. All went well until 1:00 p.m. Then came the deluge and I got soaked. I headed to the closest stop of the Crosstown Local without delay. When I reached the corner of Ainslie Street and Graham Avenue let’s just say something um, interesting, arose. Enjoy. Or not.
A few thoughts:
- Yes, the quality of this video (as uploaded) is iffy.* This is not unintentional. However, I can assure you this man was fondling himself— and believe you me he was “pitching a tent” in those tighty whities! For reasons yours truly cannot yet ascertain, this somehow made the whole episode even more revolting.
- More than anything I was dumbstruck by this man’s persistence and sheer chutzpah. The fact I stormed across the street in a huff (Yes, I jaywalked. I did not want to go back to the corner and pass by this man. I was more concerned about his safety than my own. I was pissed.) and entered Trattoria 312 did not faze him in the least. He just stood there. With his damned fly open.
- The guys at Trattoria 312 were— to reiterate— very responsive. This is laudable given I was apoplexic with incredulous rage and did not have my usual gift of gab at the time. One of them even stood outside and watched this gent (which was standing next to their sandwich board advertising lunch specials) as I left their establishment. For this I am very grateful. Thanks again, guys. You just got my business— and given I am still a wee bit bitter Barosa is gone this is saying quite a lot!

*I have burned my raw footage onto a CD and will be handing this off— along with a photo of this gent— to the 90th Precinct.
UPDATE: It has been handed over to the 90th.
Happy Valentine’s Day From New York Shitty!

This Valentine’s Day greeting hails from Grandma Rose’s (which serves pretty tasty fare, I will add) on Graham Avenue. Those of you who will be celebrating the day single, do not despair. Let the following dialogue from Chez Shitty (regarding the video I am about to share with you) provide some semblance of solace.
Me (with more than a hint of sarcasm): Love means never having to say you’re sorry.
The Mister: It means having to say you’re sorry for the rest of your life.
Without further ado here it is: one half of a conversation to which anyone who has ever been in a relationship— be it functional or otherwise— can relate. Enjoy!
Have a happy and safe Valentine’s Day, New York Shittites! May this day be filled with flowers, candy, romance or whatever. Speaking for Chez Shitty, yours truly has received a very special present from the Mister. Here’s how we broke the good news to the cantankerous and somewhat legendary proprietor of T & N Wine and Liquor: Chris.
Preface: The Mister decided upon exiting the Crosstown Local that he fancied a little Hennessy after his meal.* To this end we headed to T & N without delay.
Chris: Look at this attractive couple!
Me: You’re funny.
Chris: What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?
Me (to the Mister): Tell the nice man what you’re giving me for Valentine’s Day.
The Mister: I’m going out of town.
This was met with much amusement by our fellow liquor store patrons. Fret not, dear readers: the inhabitants of Chez Shitty, two legged and otherwise, will be eagerly awaiting— locks unchanged— the Mister’s return!

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Urban Workshop 2011 Fundraiser
This item comes courtesy of a woman named Kiki. She writes:
Miss Heather,
I want to help a community school in Williamsburg (public school not a charter), by bringing attention to their novel approach to learning…Shop class. It doesn’t sound that incredible, but in a city with dwindling budgets and a narrow focus on the test results, the new and improved shop class gives students an opportunity to engage with math, science, and English, as well as a chance to make a difference in the community. The projects help other city-based non-profits by building rainwater collection systems, garden shelters, tool sheds, and benches.
The teachers have found that in this integrated learning process, students make tangible, real-world connections with their academic learning; develop practical skills and a sense of craft; connect with community members in various New York City neighborhoods and serve their needs; understand issues of environmental, economic and social justice facing New York City communities; gain a clear sense of accomplishment; and value teamwork.
Urban Workshop is fundraising for 2011 and need all the help they can get. If people want to donate: https://www.justgive.org/basket?acton=donate&ein=27-2783169

I for one think this is a wonderful project and want to thank Kiki for bringing it to my attention!
