New York Shitty Street Art Du Jour: Girls
From Kent Avenue.
Attention Greenpointers!
(OR: “Girls” wants girls— and the rest of you to move your cars)
The New York Observer writes:
From an official Girls casting notice posted to Backstage.com, we now know what “hipster” typecasting looks like:
Seeking—Hipster Types: male and female, 18-30s, all ethnicities, all types, specifically seeking people with tattoos, piercings, colored hair, and unique looks. Young Adult (ages 18-29), Thirties (ages 30-39). Caucasian/White, African-American/Black, Latin/Hispanic/South American, Asian, Native American (!!! — Ed. Note), European, Middle Eastern, Indian/South Asian, Other.
Truth be told, I really hate going after low-hanging fruit like such as this— but “Europeans”?!? I just about shot Zywiec out of my nose reading that corker. Perhaps “Girls” will spot a few when they film in “Little Poland” tomorrow? That’s right, Greenpointers. Tomorrow. May 18th, 2012.
The areas impacted are:
- Manhattan Avenue between Java and Green Street and
- India Street between Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street.
The tow trucks show up at 2:00 p.m. Why not leave a curricula vitae and a headshot on your dashboard, Garden Spotters?

A few more film shoots in the north Brooklyn area have been brought to my attention via a tipster. They are as follows:
1. The “Good Wife” will be filming “exterior scenes” at 50 Bayard Street (between Union and Lorimer Street) on Thursday, August 4, 2001 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
2. The “Good Wife” will be filming interior scenes at 287 North Henry Street (between Meserole Avenue and Norman Avenue) August 4, 2011. The estimated time is 4:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.
3. My good friend, “Girls”, will be filming on Harrison Place between Stewart Avenue and Gardiner Avenue AND 220 Ingraham Street August 5, from 6:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
4. “Girls” will also be occupying my corner of north Brooklyn (that being north ‘Point) August 4th and 5th:
- “Exterior scenes” at 193 Meserole Avenue, between 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. (estimated)
- “Exterior scenes” at 104 India Street, between 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. On August 4th only.
As some of you might recall I took umbrage at a “legal notice” posted by a “Girls” film crew recently. This:
A thoughtful commenter brought this to my attention: New York State’s “Right of Publicity Law”, Article 5, subsection 50.
Know your rights, folks. Better yet: exercise them!

New York Shitty Photo du Jour, Part II: I Beg Your Pardon

It’s been awhile since yours truly has posted material pertaining to the film industry’s affection for my community. Thankfully today I got a much-needed reminder. As you can deduce from the above missive (which is located on Bedford Avenue at Manhattan Avenue), shooting “on location” is not merely about, well, location: it apparently also includes the citizenry contained therein. Note how the “general vicinity” seems to include a bus stop. This puts people (some of whom I would presume need to ride the bus in order to go to work or otherwise go about their daily lives) in a very interesting predicament: do they stay and therefore “consent” to being filmed/monetized or do they go elsewhere?

P.S.: Is this legal? I really want to know.
New York Shitty Day Ender: Here We Go Again
That right folks: we’ll be kicking off the week with yet another film shoot commandeering a rather substantial part of north ‘Point. Those of you who live in any of the above-listed locations and own motor vehicles be advised they need to be moved by 10:00 p.m. this evening or New York’s Finest will do so for you!

Spotted On Manhattan Avenue: NO PARKING
That’s right folks, another film crew has been given the green light to film in our fair burgh. Be sure to move your motor vehicles by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday evening or they will be relocated for you!

Spotted On McGuinness Boulevard: Fed Up
Can I honestly say I am surprised by this sullen missive? No, I am not. This Greenpointers versus film crew situation has been brewing for some time. Does anyone reading this post have the scoop as to whom is behind this campaign? If so, please share via comments or email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Your identity will remain anonymous if you so desire. Thanks!
