Found On Freeman Street: A Very Special Kitty
Filed under: 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
In the hopes of a repeat of Socks’s triumphant return to his rightful owner I present to you this found cat flier from Manhattan Avenue. No gender is indicated but I seriously doubt there are many black cats with extra toes running amok on Freeman Street. If you know to whom this lad (or lass) belongs please contact his (or her) good Samaritan at the above-listed telephone number. Thanks!

UPDATE, March 16, 2010: I have been told this kitty is safely back at home! Anne writes:
Kitty, temporary named “Bathroom Cat”, was claimed by his owner on the first floor of the building the next day (March 10). Bathroom cat was awesome and fat. And that is that.

This sign (which graces a construction site on Freeman Street) comes courtesy of Caryn Rose. Kudos to you, Caryn. This is one spectacular find.
More importantly, Hard Hat Hannah likes it as well!

New York Shitty Day Ender: A Street Fair on Manhattan Avenue?
Although this is (obviously) a ways off I wanted to bring it to your attention anyway: any and all who would like to see a street fair this summer should head to 1018 Manhattan Avenue (AKA: The Greenpoint Grocery) and sign the petition. The proposed date for the “Greenpoint Hispanic Festival” is August 8, 2010 and the location will be Manhattan Avenue between Green and Dupont Street. I for one would love to see this happen. If you do too head over to 1018 and grace this petition with your John Hancock!

When my grandchildren— no, make that OTHER PEOPLE’S GRANDCHILDREN— ask me:
Auntie Heather, what was Greenpoint like back then?
I am going to show them this (which hails from Manhattan Avenue at Freeman Street): a pearl metal flake Hummer with a $$$ license plate holder.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: WTF On West Street
Jay Lombard (who took the above photographs) writes:
Unidentified slimy substance on west St btw eagle and Freeman! Look like fish eggs from a giant newtown creek carp. And that plastic thing in the middle is a salad fork in case you were wondering. Check it out and see if you can figure out what it is.
This afternoon I went headed to West Street to see this phenomenon in person. Sure enough, after a little field-testing they proved to be very gelatinous.
If I had to hazard a guess as to that these things are I’d say they are bath beads. I for one like how someone was even kind enough to leave a spoon so passersby can scoop some up, take them home (or for the more adventurous: the East River or Newtown Creek) and enjoy a nice winter time bath on this dreary day. That’s what I call holiday cheer…
Greenpoint style!

Greenpoint Halloween Watch: Fun On Freeman
Filed under: 11206, 11211, 11222, 11237, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
Since today was slightly less abysmal than yesterday weather-wise I decided to stroll around the upper-alphabets (READ: Ash through Freeman Street). It was on Freeman between Franklin and West that I found a most spooky house!
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here!
Beware!
I suppose it goes without saying that Halloween is yours truly’s favorite holiday. It would appear to be a favorite of my fellow Garden Spotters as well: without argument some of the finest Halloween decor I have seen in this fair city hails from the 11222 zip code. If any of you, dear readers, stumble upon a Halloween house extraordinaire in the greater Williamspoint or Greenwick area I would be very grateful if you would share them with me (so I, in turn, can share them with our fellow north Brooklynites). Please send your sightings to:

Be sure to include an address and/or intersection.
Thanks!

P.S.: Some of you might have noticed that a new “category” graces this post. It is called “BAD ASS” and is inspired by the Cadillac-cum-date rape of my senses and sensibilities which graces the beginning of this post.
