Happy Hanukkah From New York Shitty!
Yes, I am all too aware this celebration is well under way. But to set the record straight I was hard-pressed to find a bit of Greenpoint goodness to accompany my well-wishes. Today on Franklin Street this changed. Have a happy and safe one, my Jewish friends— and give that dreidel a whirl for me!

Tis The Season: 57 Franklin Street
Those of you who frequent Franklin Street have probably noticed this house. While not terribly remarkable (there are many like it in Greenpoint) the owners spare no time and expense on seasonal decor. Be it Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas, these people celebrate with style!
A retinue of snowmen meets and greets passersby.
A stoop festooned with candy canes…
and much…
much more!
I love these little guys. And last, but hardly least, my personal favorite…
Hundreds of little snowflakes, jingle bells and icicles grace the trees! If you have the time and wherewithal to brave this downright brutal chill do swing by and see this festive display of holiday cheer in person. TIP: it’s even more impressive at night!

P.S.: On an unrelated note, today’s offerings will be decidedly lite. I have a lot of work to get caught up on before this busy pre-holiday weekend— including get a donation together for the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Holiday Flea Market!
TONIGHT IN GREENPOINT: Lap Dances & Champagne Room
Those of you who prefer twigs and berries to mistletoe this holiday season will be delighted to know that tonight the “Adonis Lounge” will be hosting a private party featuring fifteen of New York’s “hottest Men”, lap dances, champagne room and full bar and “full stage show”. If the address of this establishment, 113 Franklin Street, sounds vaguely familiar that’s because it is the location of the Production Lounge. Perhaps they have decided to diversify from hip-hop to himbos?

UPDATE, December 18, 2009: If my inbox and what I have been told in person today is any indication, both 311 and the 94th Precinct received a lot of angry phone calls last night. In one such case regarding the latter the desk Sargent advised the caller that this was, in fact, illegal but they (the police department) could do nothing about it. The he advised him/her to call 311.
Greenpoint Photo Du Jour: Cheer!
This festive holiday tableau (which features none other than the 42nd President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton, sporting a rather sizable cigar!) hails from Franklin Street.

P.S.: It is even more stunning after dark!
THIS WEEKEND: Sip & Shop
Yesterday I shared with you the good news (for holiday shopping procrastinators like myself, anyway) about the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Holiday Flea Market. Well, I have even more local shopping goodness to pass along: there will be a second sale the same day only blocks away!
Among the goodies promised at this event are vintage apparel, hatboxes, decorative items, kitschy curiosities and “retro drink specials”. Although I myself make it a point to never drink and shop (it’s hazardous to my wallet) this sounds like a mighty fun way to get one’s holiday shopping done while buying local. Check it out!

New York Shitty Day Starter: Thursday Night
Greenpointless captured this rather surrealistic tableau of fauna at Greenpoint’s very own Pencil Factory! I loved it so much I simply had to post it here. Be sure to check out Greenpointless’s other photographs. There’s something about her latest body of work (including some shots taken of the much-discussed congregation of Hasidim on West Street earlier this week) that I find very compelling.
