From The New York Shitty Inbox: Vans Writes…

(and I reply!)

Today, while feeling hardly at 100% (think more like 70%), I not only took a walk (and in so doing probably spread my 11222 pestilence throughout Williamsburg) but am endeavoring to catch up blog-wise. Some of you probably recall I received an item from a concerned neighbor about Van’s Opening party last weekend. I posted it— and am pleased to announce that I heard from a very nice Public Relations representative from Vans named Chris.

While very pleased with Chris’s very pro-active approach to any quality of life issues which may have arisen as a result of Vans’s opening party, I am more concerned about my friends and neighbors who live closer to said business. And exactly how said business will be operated, e.g.; a corporate headquarters which appears to also be outfitted as a performance venue. I replied:

Follows is his reply:

Where we will go from here is yet to be determined— but this is a good start! In the meantime I would like to take a moment to thank Chris for his responsiveness and willingness to meet with members of my community.

To be continued…

From The New York Shitty Inbox: More About The Garden Spot Cafe

I recently noted that 159 Franklin Street, formerly known as the Greenpoint Coffee House, appeared to be nearing completion. Well, according to an email I received it would appear I was right! A tipster we’ll call “Cat” writes:

…you had asked about updates for the Garden Spot Cafe, which will open in the location of the former Greenpoint Coffee House.  Jeff, the owner of both the building and the new cafe (who is also the manager for the building where I live) told me yesterday that he expects to open soon, possibly within a month.  From what he told me, it sounds like the cafe will serve standard American fare and will have a full liquor license.  In my own self interest I asked of there would be some vegetarian selections and he said yes.  I’m not sure how much publicity he is looking for at this point or if he has a whole PR campaign planned, but Jeff is a nice guy and a lifelong resident of Greenpoint so I hope he gets the word out soon and does well in his latest Greenpoint endeavor.

So there have you.

THIS WEEK: Snorters

When I spied this (posted at Pets On The Run) while running errands recently I simply knew I had to post it here. The reasons for this are two-fold:

  1. I know a lot of folks reading this have furkids of the snorting variety.
  2. Having grown-up with an English bulldog myself, Amos, let’s just say I have a fondness for such critters. Amos was not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer— but that is what made him so darned interesting. For starters, anything that could would invariably find it way into this animal’s mouth (and face certain annihilation). This included (but was not limited to) a great number of my dolls. Being a tomboy (and as such much more interested in Legos and Erector Sets) this didn’t bother me too much.

In all seriousness, this sounds like a lot of fun. Be advised there is a weight limit: 25 pounds or less. For more information about this event you are advised to contact Jen at jenschiffer (at) mac (dot) com. Woof!

Where do you start with something like this? Hell, where do you finish? All I am going to say is I wish I could transport this chap— headgear and all— to an actual Indian reservation (which are among the most miserable of places you can imagine) and get their take on his choice of apparel. I have a creeping suspicion it wouldn’t be very pretty.

The paper is slowly being removed from the much-promised Garden Spot Cafe

yet there appears to be plenty of work left to be done! Does anyone have the 411 on when this establishment will (at long last) open? If so, I’d like to hear from you— via comments or email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.

Thanks!

To close on a (somewhat) related note, I have been noticing a lot of graffiti featuring feline subject matter hereabouts lately. Without further ado, here they are!

Union Avenue

Could this be the start of a trend? I can only hope so. Cattitude!

P.S.: I have also gotten word that Dog Habitat has a new feline in residence. Jay writes:

Had a surprise waiting at the door early one morning. A kitten in a basket. Dropped off some time before 6:30 a.m. Young and friendly. Grey with what could be a broken tail.

Naturally I intend to meet (and film) this little guy (or girl)— STAT!
