Reader Comment du Jour: F Is For…
It’s been awhile since I have showcased a comment from you, the readers. This is not because I have not been reading (and enjoying) them: I have. The previous having been written, I have to confess that this one (which is in reference to my post announcing the new Greenpoint tank tops available at Kill Devil Hill) is a little more compelling than most. K.A.A. writes:
Another thing to note is the nautical flags. Normally a red square in a white field stands for the letter F and is spoken as ‘Foxtrot’ . The flag also means ‘ I am disabled, communicate with me.’
In nautical and military slang it can also stand for the word Fuck.
So, it seems we have two disabled Greenpoint girls who at least want to talk, will probably go down and maybe even want to fuck
Too funny
It just goes to show you learn something new every day!

Now At Kill Devil Hill: Wish Fulfillment
As some of you recall earlier this month I announced that the Garden Spot’s very own Kill Devil Hill has created their own Greenpoint t-shirt (as seen at left). While lovely I took my time acquiring one. They are nice to be certain— but therein lies the rub: unlike their Bad Brains and Shit Tit inspired predecessor by my buddy Subtexture they are, well, a little too nice. Then I received an email from a lady named Donna who forced me to reconsider this assessment. She writes:
Thought you might get a kick out of this. My two eldest sisters grew up in Greenpoint during the hippie heyday. One joke the locals had was that “Greenpoint girls go down like anchors”!… I of course bought this shirt for my sister and told the woman in the shop the “legend”…she loved it!….. Maybe those shirts being worn by all the new people will take on another significance but, everytime I see them I think of what my sisters told me! lol!
Needless to say this changed everything. I scurried out the door to secure one but alas when I arrived they had sold out! However, I did make a recommendation to the kindly woman behind the counter (Mary, who assured me more shirts were on the way): with summer coming up could they produce a tank top? Today, gentle readers, I got the good word: they’re in!
Hi Heather,
As per your request, we made some Greenpoint anchor tank tops. They are in the shop and come in the same color, navy with white writing. Have a great weekend.Mary
Mission accomplished!

Spotted At The Greenpoint Gazette: WTF?!?
I know July 4th is some ways off but I damned near shot coffee out of my nose when I saw this. I mean, who in their right mind would throw a child-centric event on the same block as a 3/4 house for recovering drug addicts and the infamous Greenpoint Hotel (which, when combined, house no less than six registered sex offenders— including a few whose crimes were against minors). Well it would appear somebody thought this was a sterling concept. I really, truly hope this is a mistake on the Gazette’s part.
